They basically leave me completely alone if I use that.
Some IDs are good like that. My sis used to drive into Canada, typically in a van so loaded it looked like cover for a smuggler. When she got pulled out for a full vehicle search, she'd leave her purse on her seat and her Treasury commission right at the top of the purse.

The guys at the border would first go right for the purse. Oddly enough, every time she got pulled for a full vehicle search she'd get to the waiting area and only have to wait a minute or two before she was told to head back to her van and continue on. ;)

You need to explain this more. What was she carrying into Canada? Was it official treasury department business? Just curious.

This was not official business. If it had been, she would have presented a red passport and her commission. I can't imagine her being searched after that.

Since she was off the clock, either working a side business as a collectible doll dealer or just on vacation, she would have never tried to gain advantage by showing her commission. She just left it where it would be immediately found if the border guys were particularly nosy.

I got pulled for a secondary inspection that last time I flew in from Brazil on business, and showed my TWIC card to the DHS/immigration agent, and she did not know what it was...

Why would you need a TWIC card? I am required to have one to visit offshore oil production facilities, according to DHS.

Oddly enough, I just got back from Brazil last night. Spent a week in the capital, Brasília. My question is, was this going into that country or coming back from it?

I actually had to go through an immigration agent because I didn't pass the picture test of the new electronic stations they have in Miami. I believe it due to the fact that I don't look like the picture on my official passport because of the beard, and these new machines compare the two. I also got an odd look from the immigration officer going into Brazil as I used the same passport picture for my visa (issued from work), but then she just smiled and welcomed me. It was nicer than what the DHS agent in Atlanta did when I got back from Japan the week earlier, who grilled me about my trip despite my official passport, orders and DoD ID...

And yes, I've unintentionally used my CHL on a few occasions when traveling, and it never has been an issue. It is a state-issued ID and an acceptable form of identification, and there is no reason any government agency or business should not accept it as such!

My cousin used to have one of those passports. Was always a little jealous when he would just get waved by.

When I was in retail. I had the little ol lady 85 at that point of time who always wrote checks. One day she used her chl as an ID. Being a little nosey. I eyeballed her purse really well. She was carrying a full sized 1911. Lol. Turns out she was a really interesting old lady. Spent hours talking to her.

A little off subject, but a couple of weeks ago, my wife asked me to stop and pick up a prescription at the pharmacy. It was for a pain killer, and required that whoever was picking it up to present ID. I handed them my U. S. Passport Card. The girl said this isn't ID. Do you have a Driver's License? I told her that I do, but that I didn't want to use it, that she had ID in her hand. After a few seconds of looking at me like I fell from the moon, she told the pharmacist I was being difficult, and could he please "straighten me out!". The pharmacist came over, and asked what the problem was. I explained that when asked for ID, I gave her a Passport Card, and she was adamant that I give her my DL. I said, since I already supplied ID, I didn't feel I had to produce another one. He just shook his head, took the needed info from the Passport Card, and sent me on my way. Will be interesting to see how they handle it next time. Who know's, I may just use my CHL to really confuse them.

I don't understand why people have to act like you did. You sure showed her.

I had a cashier refuse to sell me alcohol when I presented an Active Duty Military ID Card. She claimed that it was not a "real ID" since it wasn't issued by the State.

She is partially correct. Texas law makes a cashier criminally liable if she sells to a unauthorized person even if a fake ID is presented. However, if the person displayed what appeared to be a valid Texas DL or ID card, the cashier gets a pass. That pass does not extend to any other form of ID.

If its anything like Georgia law here in Texas shes right. Its stupid but legally i couldnt accept a fed id, passport, or green card. "But come on its an ID" yeah well it aint gonna be you being fined jailed and fired if some douche undercover stings you on it.

Texas law just says you csnnot sell to an underaged person. It does not mandate what ID you accept. If you accept an ID from a box of Cracker Jacks and the person is at least 21, you are fine. However, if the person is under 21 you can be charged. If the person shows a military ID that shows them to be 22, but the person is actually under 21, you can be charged. If the person shows an apparant Texas DL that shows the person to be 21, but the person is under 21, they are not liable criminally.

So while a server/seller can accept any ID, smart ones will only accept Texas DL or ID.

I would've been right there with that cashier. Even a $500 fine is pretty much world breaking if you are making minimum wage with 20hr weeks, not even close to being worth the risk no matter how legit the ID may be.

My local newspaper had a voter guide included in this weeks edition. Along with other forms of i.d. It also lists chl as a valid form of i.d. when voting.

HAAAAA!!!!! It's always funny to see em do the double/triple take when they look at you/license. :roflfunny:

Miami has the new immigration kiosks that allow you to electronically submit your paperwork when entering this country. Part of the process is scanning your passport and then taking a second picture to compare it. Since I don't look like my passport picture (because of the beard), I got this nasty 'X' on my form and had to go stand in a long line to see an agent. Considering those in front of me in the line got some serious scrutinizing, I actually had it pretty easy; but they wanted me to fill out the blue form and then gave me one in Spanish which I don't speak or read. The agent had to tell me what to put in each block.

I've been having similar hassles a lot lately, I almost didn't get to Brazil because my official passport and visa were in Miami (to get the latter) and I was using my tourist passport for Japan. They will normally not let you board your flight, even if it's a domestic one, if your final destination is a country that requires a visa beforehand. Luckily with my other credentials I was able to convince the airline agent to accept a picture that my contact in Miami was able to email to me.

Then, when I got to my hotel in Brasília, they told me I had already checked in three days earlier! Eh? Turns out there as a Brit staying there with the same name.

My travels of late have been nothing but ordeal after ordeal...
