Just bought a new Ruger LCP from Academy and all they had for ammo was Monarch 380 JHP in 94gr brass cased. Its was just made last month if that should matter. Never shot the pistol yet but when cycling the rounds through the chamber, I noticed that I get a FTE. Does the LCP like Monarch JHP? I do plan on getting some quality defensive ammo as soon as I can find some, but this is all I have for now to practice with. I do like the fit and feel of this gun, and would hate to find out that it already doesn't like certain ammo. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I hate the Monarch JHP and my Colt Mustang hates it too... other JHP's have no trouble feeding and Monarch FMJ feeds like an angel but with Monarch JHP all bets are off... I would say your LCP might be experiencing similiar issues...

Ive had four or five FTE with Wolf FMJ out of 100.
And one FTE with Blazer out of several hundred.
Basically, don't run Wolf through it and expect any kind of good.
I ran Hydra Shok through it yesterday with no issues.

This may simply be a break-in issue with your LCP. There are many reports that you must put a few hundred rounds through the gun before it feeds reliably. Conversely, try manually racking it about 400 times.

My LCP had some feeding problems when it was new but seems to have settled in now that I've shot/racked it enough. I also used the Monarch simply because nothing else was available. I do have some Speer Gold Dots now for carry, they seem to feed fine.

Last gun show some dealers were asking almost $1/rd for 380 FMJ. Big box stores, when they have it, are not gouging.

Thanks guys for the replies. The FTE was just a matter of a slow movement of the slide while at home. At the range today, it ate Monarch JHP & Winchester WB without any issues and it was pretty accurate for my standards. Will keep on moving the slide back and forth to break-in the springs in more. I love this gun.

I had a similar problem. I polished the feed ramp and now it handles virtually all ammo.
