I want to buy some land for hunting purposes. Where in Texas (county) should I buy land? I'm looking to buy about 200 acres.

Better have deep pockets (very deep) if you're looking to buy that much land somewhere worth hunting. You may want to check into hunting leases, they're available all over the state and cost varies depending on location and land owner/manager.

Id mainly like to hunt white tail, but turkeys and various birds also interest me. Budget 200k. I live in Houston, but I am not opposed to driving an hour or two for weekend hunting trips. thanks in advance.

I'm a Realtor in Houston, and I've done some rural deals. You're going to be hard-pressed to get over 80 acres for $200K, and you'd better have cash. There is a LOT of money flowing into Texas for RE investment, and prices are crazy high.

More than a couple of hours from Houston (probably more like 9) but in your price range for acreage. East Rim Ranch Tracts, Land for Sale by Alpine in Brewster County, Texas 79831 - LANDFLIP.com Land for Sale | East Rim RanchEast Rim Ranch

This ranch was just sold late last year and is now being divided up, now would be the time to get in and pick out the good stuff. White tail, mule deer, javalina, antelope, audad, and a chance for escapee exotics. Quail and Dove for birds, no hogs this far south.

are you a vet by chance?

I used the lands of texas website to filter by regions of the state, acres and so forth when I was land shopping.

Look for land way out in Marfa.

West Texas looks like about $500-1,500 per acre.

Stay away from south Texas parcels near Laredo or Brownsville -- the illegal migration has all but rendered private lands unusable.

I am a fan of the Medina, Uvalde, Kinney, Bandera and Edwards Counties. I don't know the pricing of land, but the hunting for White Tail, Pigs, Birds are great.

Around bandera and uvalde is very expensive. He would be much closer to 50 acres than 200 in that area.

If I were looking for 200+- acres, I'd look west. Like, towards El Paso west. Land is relatively cheap but, there's a little thing called water that can be hard to come by. As well as septic, electric, and other essentials. I was looking in the Marfa and Telingua area for a while myself but, that water thing kept poppin' up. I finally ended up more towards central Texas on a LOT smaller lot than I wanted. But I like it and it's working for now.

    Good luck.
