I saw a recent thread here about IWB holsters, but I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good OWB holster for my (5") Springfield 1911?

The thing is, I don't normally wear a belt. Is there a good option in OWB leather without having to wear a belt? Like a nice leather holster with a synthetic paddle that anchors IWB? Or should I just man-up and wear a belt?

Aye-aye. So with a belt, do you 1911 guys have a favorite OWB rig? I prefer the brown leather and would like to keep it around 40-50 bucks if possible.

In a word, no. Not if you want the holster to stay attached to your pants during the draw, anyway.

I carry mine in a South African clone of the Milt Sparks 55BN, but that might not be of much practical use to you - there's a long wait for those. I would, however, urge you not to cheap out - get something decent like Ryan Grizzle's Working Man

I would go with a custom made leather OWB belt holster. That way you specify Exactly which gun, style of holster, color, belt size, cant, border stitching, etc. I love a natural finish, or a saddle tan on my holsters, but, they tend to draw a bit more attention to me if I accidentally show my rig when I'm wearing darker shirts/colored clothing. So my choice is normally black for my EDC holster(s). And when you pair that with a well made belt that will not only support the weight but, balance it your hip and help distribute the weight around a bit, it can actually be quite comfortable for all day carry.

The guy that made my last two holsters is up in Oklahoma and does very good work. - Concealed carry holsters from Jeffrey Custom Leather concealment gear - Unfortunately, a custom holster is going to cost quite a bit more than 50 bucks. But, in my opinion, it's money Very well spent.

Okay gentlemen, thanks for the insight! I hope to make it to Market Hall on Saturday and maybe I'll see Tucker & Byrd or some other nice holsters. At least I know what to look for now.

Btw, that "Workin' Man" rig is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Only cheaper. LOL! I know, I know, you get what you pay for and all that. But 200 bucks for a new holster and belt (after tax and/or shipping) just ain't happening right now. Believe me though, I understand the value of a good, reinforced gun belt and quality holster, I really do. But my budget is very tight and I don't carry daily. My $65 Mexican gun belt for my Vaquero worked fine for the dozen or so times I used it over the years. If and when I get to carrying the 1911 daily I will certainly consider investing in a better rig. Like a good scope, I know it's money well spent.

I carry using a Com II from HBE leatherworks and an Instructor belt from The Wilderness.
    Solid, solid holster and belt.

I can carry in shorts and a t-shirt with no problem.

For what it's worth, Eric of HBE leatherworks, makes an awesome CZ holster. Made one for my CZ83 that fits like a glove.

    Dallas Texas or so
Tucker, DM Bullard, Monica Kuhn, are three good makes of Texas made holsters. There are more. Maybe I'll see you at Market Hall as I will be there at Ten or earlier. Rafter S usually has a booth there. Good belts and holsters. Just don't order on line from them. PM me and we can meet up.

Army, I'd love to meet up with you sometime, but something's come up and it looks like I'm not gonna make the show this weekend. Fortunately, there's a show nearly every weekend in DFW, so maybe next time :-)
