I traded of one of my other toys and some dollars and ended up with one of these. I just "WANTED" one. LOL Here is a report.
I had my doubts after cleaning it last night, it just seems too basic and almost cheaply made on the inside. The outside of this weapon is pretty awesome. Looks like what it is intended to look like. The quad rail setup is VERY well made and looks plenty strong.
I had already read that the weapon likes Federal Bulk ammo, and I just happened to have a box. I also took along a box of CCI mini mags, a box of Federal Target Grade ammo and a box of Remington Golden Bullets.
We started with the Federal Bulk. I was expecting an easy task of sighting it in, so I started at 50 yards. (Our range is being rebuilt and our 25yard burm is not there.) I have had this Federal Bulk ammo for 3-4 years because my Semi-Auto pistol doesn't like it. The rifle was shooting really low and I could not get it on target before running out of elevation on the rear sight. Then I remembered that the instructions said to adjust the front post for the first time sighting in the rifle. Turns out they meant it and they were correct. We moved the rear sight back to the midway point and began adjusting the front post. It has a detent that you push down and then turn a quarter turn at a time. Well, I didn't count but it took about 3 full turns to get the elevation we needed. Once that was accomplished my two shooting buddies and I took turns running through 30 rounds at a time. 300 rounds later we were doing well, but it was getting windy and nobody else was a round so we set up a small target at 25 yards. Two more clicks of elevation and a couple to the right and I was making a ragged quarter sized hole. AT 25 to 50 yards with open sights this gun is definately a shooter, We were all three getting about a 4"=5" group at 50. My eyes aren't what they used to be. I haven't been shooting with iron sights in a while, but this was fun. We all discovered that we liked using the smaller peep on the rear sight. The instructions said that was for shooting over 200 yards. LOL The rear sight flips over easily so you can try either one pretty quickly.
After playing for a while we set up a B27 target at 100 yards. I had to prove that myMini-14 was still deadly with the scope I put on it last Winter, so I put two Hornady bullets in about a 1/2" dot I put on the head. Then the fun began. I put 30 rounds into the COM with the Colt, the first 15 were slow and methodical and in about a pie plate, the last 15 were pretty fast and the group spread to about 15". Needless to say wwe were tickled, well, at least I was. My buds did the same thing and the poor B27 ended with a lot of holes in it.
After goofing around for most of the afternoon we decided to try the other ammos. The Remington would not fire for caca. I mean it looked like the pin didn't even touch it. I fired one, then nothing, kept clicking and racking and finally a second round went off. Weird, I have never seen anything like it. I gave up on those pretty quick. The Federal Target loads sucked too. The CCI Mini Mags shot fine though and cycled fine.
We had several failures to fire. Seemed like we were getting light strikes. I am hoping after cleaning it again and more lube etc that it will break in and act right. Over all this rifle had us all grinning from ear to ear. I wanted a quick handling rifle with capable iron sights and lots of ammo with a cool look, and I got one.
In conclusion the jury is still out on whether or not it is worth the money they are asking for these things, but the fun factor is definately there. We all three agreed it was a lot of fun. We also had a 10/22 there that didn't get shot much. It was scoped and of course shot very well. We put about 400 rounds through the Colt and decided that we would all have to bring our own ammo next time. LOL The triger is heavy, but I think it was getting better as the day progressed, the mag worked flawlessly, and other than a few FTF it did well overall. We did have a couple of FTE, but mostly with ammo other than the two it liked. I think with another trip to the range it should all fall into place. It should do fine to control the Jackalope problem we have at the ranch.
