Question for the gallery, should I start the process on a new 308 can or an sbr lower? I don't own anything in 308 but plan to be more involved with long range shooting this year.

But I also like the idea of an sbr in 223/300blk.

If I had to make a choice I'd go with can first.

Cans are much more versatile than an SBR lower in .308. Although I'm not saying that a .308 SBR is not going to be badass.

A .308 SBR is going to do nothing for your wanting to get more involved with long range shooting but waste ammo. Will be awesome to play/train with though.

In reality I would just do them both at the same time. As soon as possible.

If you have an AR-15 Lower already, submit the paperwork (or wait for efile to come back up) and it's $200. If you don't, spend $80 on a stripped lower and submit paperwork (so $280).
Order can at the same time. Don't wait for 41P to come into effect and then decide you wanted another NFA item.

AR-15 lower won't work for his .308 project.

    I thought he wanted a 5.56/300BLK one?

I say send off forms for them both at the same time. Build out the lower as a pistol with the Sig Not-a-stock until the stamp comes back.
