I don't see the big deal, if you conceal the gun in the car without a license it's not like they'd ever know it was there since you don't have to tell them. Hell, you can leave a loaded long-gun in the car too, in plain sight.

I guess it's OK for cops to have a firearm, but they are evidently scared of a CHL holder having one. It's OK for a cop to point his firearm at me, for his safety, but somehow I have no obligation to the same thing.

This sounds like a pile of crap if you ask me, and moreso like a few cops are getting mad at losing out on some power over the people. I don't know of a single cop locally that I've known or talked to that is concerned with CHL holders. Hell, half of them are CHL holders. I smell politics.

Gary Blankinship, president of the Houston Police Officers’ Union, said the new rules could put officers at risk.

I have a problem with this....he's one man, and does NOT necessarily speak for all the Officers.

“We feel like the way it was was much safer,” Blankinship said.

Who is "We" ??? Did he poll the entire union??

And it's legal to have a concealed weapon in your vehicle in TX without a CHL anyway.

    It does stink of politics.

Only law enforcement person I ever had the opportunity to show my CHL card to wasn't in the least interested. His advice was "Slow down" & a warning ticket. He was a middle aged Texas Highway Patrolman. I know, we call them by the yankee term "State Troopers" now, or y'all do. I don't.

Police Chiefs and Presidents of Officer's Associations/unions are just politicians looking for the bully pulpit. The rank and file are not that concerned about lawful carry of firearms.

I look at every traffic stop as having at least one gun in the equation, mine. Everyone is treated the same until I have reason to treat them differently.

I don't carry a gun to please an officer (or anyone else for that matter), though I don't understand the whole deal.

My the letter of the law, it says to show license at a stop, but there is no penalty for not showing. Wouldn't it make more sense to simply make it so that it wasn't required?

I want to make sure there is no confusion here. So if u dont have to show the the law that u have to have a CHL do u still have to have it on u whenever packing. Im allways worried im going to lose it as I dont carry a wallet on me. I agree also that its ok for them to carry off duty but they dont like it if we do the same thing even though we have all had the same back ground checks. Double standard. I know not all police feel this way. I just really hate the Above The Law Mentality. Hell no one is better trained then are soliders. When they come home they should be allowed to carry as they have been for the past 2 years or how ever long they have been in a different country.

One more time: You MUST display your CHL along with your driver license when a peace officer requests ID if you are carrying. There is no penalty if you don't.

    Buy a wallet!

Double Action I was just making a joke. There is no penalty if ya dont but you still have to show it. That sounds like well u get the idea. I just wear my license around my neck as I hate wearing a wallet bad for the lower back if sitting.
