Standing in line at Kroger for odds and ends and the gentleman in front of us was talking to the cashier. My wife, noting his accent asked "Where are you from?"...He responded "Nigeria", She tells him I had been to Africa...to which he asks..."So, what did you do in Africa?"....and the little devil on Left Shoulder blurts out "I killed Africans."...

She still isn't speaking to me.

Well, I know for a fact she knows it wasn't a racist comment, just a matter of fact....."Did you see any deer at the lease?"...."Yeah, I shot a 6 pointer" type comment. To be honest I really didn't think about what I had said until AFTER the fact...

I didn't see your wife's understanding as the problem, rather what the man's understanding might have been.

Actually he laughed about it. Asked me where in Africa I had been and she told him I was deployed to Somalia, Rwanda, Congo/Zaire, and Sierre Leone...he shook my hand and thanked me for my service...but I felt like crap about it, made a feeble attempt at an apology, but was pretty much left with it still "Out There" type feeling....

    Do NOT bring home roses....thorns....

Oh and thanks to you she just happened to read the "Do not mess with a Southern Woman"....really appreciate giving unstable people (red-heads) ideas. Makes for interesting sleep patterns...one eye open and all that.

    Been there Brother, been there

I had a college student (TT) back in 77' ask me what I'd done in Vietnam, my reply was "I snuffed gooks". I payed for that one for a long time and did regret letting my mouth get ahead of my brain, but Vet's didn't have the respect they have today and I wasn't apologetic for doing my duty and maybe got a little militant about it for a while.

Thank you for your service, you are all Hero's.

Now get out of the dog house.....

BTW, 'gook' is not a derogatory term. It's the Korean word for 'person'.
