All I had left to do was click YES and 1000rds Tula .223 would have been headed my way @ $0.25/ea.

I decided to ask you gurus what your thoughts are on ammo pricing over the next 6 months.

Give me the good, the bad, and the ugly information.

I got a feeling it might get crazy again. Also 25 cents is a very good price, the stuff I ordered was 38 cents. Get it if you got the cash for it.

Buy it if you can afford it. Looking at the macro, ammo prices will be going up as they have for years. Look at the price points for the different rounds 5 years ago compared to now. There will be ups and downs, but the overall trend is increasing prices.

I gotcha Eddie, maybe was too vague.

Specifically on .223, is $0.25 about as low as can be expected? I'm not worried over a 1 or 2 cent difference but a 5 cent drop would be worth holding out for.

Is there a reliable site that shows historical ammo prices?

    I gotta agree with grumper.

I don't think they are gonna start giving it away any time soon. Buy it.

Personally I would avoid Tula and spend a little more on Wolf but that is up to you.

Buy. If the price drops $50...youre "out" $50 but still have a thousand rounds of ammo. If the price increases and you havent bought you are out the money as well. Buy now and you can control the price you buy at.

I dollar cost averaged most of my ammo. Some was good priced most was just Academy or GT regular price one box at a time. I did buy a couple of cases and was glad I did. Havent bought much in 2 years. Started buying 9mm again when I see it at a fair price.

Is $50 worth the peace of mind to have the ammo you need/want?

There's no need to be rude. :p

Obviously Tula is plinking ammo and so far my AR hasn't choked on anything. What makes Wolf better?

I scanned around and see the Tula was a DNF for failures which for plinking doesn't really bother me and has not been my experience so far. I also see it's powder burns faster which I assume affects velocity but as long as it's consistent, that shouldn't affect accuracy, correct?

My eyes are too tired to read that whole article tonight so I'll hit it later. Thanks for the link.

The powder burn rate also affects how the bolt unlocks and ties into gumming up the works.

A similiar issue caused some of the problems soldiers had with their new M16s in Vietnam.

A casual shooter probably won't have any issues but it is worth a few bucks to avoid bottom of the barrel ammo to me.

I've had good results with Tula or both reliability and accuracy.

I understand there is a chance it may slightly shorten the life of my barrel, but that's just a good reason to rebuild and upgrade, right?

Seems it used to be Wolf people talked about having issues with. I tend to avoid it.

My crystal ball tells me to hold tight on any center fire until .22 LR ammo is no longer rationed and sits on the shelf for more than two store delivery cycles.

Once the .22 craze is satisfied, people will shoot more of it than before -- that will relieve more pressure on center fire which is a bit more plentiful now but still expensive.

In other words, center fire ammo will not drop appreciably in price until the entire ammo market stabilizes, and that will not happen until .22 LR sits on the shelf for days on end without being sold out.

Fast & Furious, NSA Snooping on Citizens, IRS persecution of the Tea Party and other conservative groups, Quantitative Easing, Militarization of the Police, Cooked Unemployment Numbers, Benghazi, Ineffective Foreign policy vis a vis Russia, Iran, Venezuela, and the VA Debacle (among many others) are slowly bubbling into the national conscience. All are products of "Progressive" a.k.a. Democrat leadership failures.

If enough Americans vote the Democrats out in '14 & '16, we will see more freedom and the ammo companies will finally commit to expanding their production capabilities.

    Great advice there.

    I say buy as well.

I have done my own research on the gun-deals expired deals and looking back at pre Sandy pricing and further, and I can't see Wolf or any of the imported steel .223 going much lower then .25. I could see a sale or two popping up for $4.50, maybe even one for $4 a box, but they are not going to be anything of a regular occurrence and if you catch them, buy some more, if not, at $5 a box you still did pretty good.

On a related note. When it comes to imported stuff, I have been taking advantage lately, because I feel that it's source is too vulnerable to politics in it's region as well as politics here.

Buy it. I will say the same about 50cal ammo cans too. Buy them. With all of the Gov threat of crushing brass and libtards foaming at the mouth about the next Lanza I would buy buy buy if you have the cabbage.

I could put some of my money in ammo and some in a savings account. I probably wind up at getting the same return from both. The only difference is that I have the security of knowing that next time .gov starts bringing up legislation and people panic, I won't have anything to worry about buying ammo.

I think Shortround has a point about the market changing with the stock of .22, but I just don't see it falling enough for me to take a gamble and not have a decent reserve.
