Love my .45 XD and what the bullet can do for defense but I just bought a 40 cal XD and have to tell ya its been a blessing. I can find ammo everywhere. Im burned out trying to find 45 ammo. If you get lucky and find it you pay for it also. Just bought 15/50 rnd boxes ($13.50) Federal of 40 from 3 different stores. Was talking to a guy at the gun shop who just went to a gun show were he only found 2 people selling 45. They were asking $45.00 for a box of 50. Its still one of my favorite rounds but I think the XD45 is going in the gun safe until this crazy crap blows over. Until then my 40cal will work just fine.

Got ONE word for ya "RELOAD" !

Lets do some simple math, shall we ?

13.50 x 15 = 202.50, PLUS Tax ! Cut your ammo use down by a 3rd, for a while and you will have a reloading set up in no time. 67.50 saved in the fund EVERY time you buy .40 cal. Cant tell you how long, cuz I don't know your ammo budget for a month, but you get the idea.

Once you OWN the equipment, you will shoot OVER TWICE as much, for the SAME dollar.

Then, just start to stash supplies, when you find deals.

Hell, I was just looking through some of my stuff and found 3K .223 55gn FMJ SPEER bullets. The box says they were 39.99 a K ! Only WISH I would have bought more !

What Walmart are you finding 45. I go to 4 different ones every week and they never have 45. Where is Academy at? Reloading ive thought about but of course initial costs, time to do it and space to do it. How fast can you load 100 rounds? You have me interested. One more ? is it safe to reload with compresion of the powder and all. Sorry about the rookie questions just have never reloaded.

Only way to shoot IMO is reload!!!
    I shoot a lot of 44mag .
50 rounds cost me 13.85 vs 40.00 in most stores.
    50 rounds of 9mm 5.50
    50 rounds of 45acp 10.00
    50 rounds of 357mag 7.25

    Those are basically 1970's prices!!!

    Speaking of cheap prices.
I just last monthi bought 150 "Hustler" "Keith" 250 SWC bullets new in the box for the same price that was paid in 1973 - 4.25 per 50
I also got primed 44 Winchester new brass for 4.75 per 50
The old man found this stuff in a box in the back of a storage closet in his garage.
    That was a nice find!!!!

Anyone have any info on how long it takes to load like 100 rounds and is it safe. Would be doing this in my house so safety is a priority.

Not knowing where your located Wedge I can only comment on supplies here in Houston. 45 ACP has been pretty easy to find if you are willing to pay $23 + a box. Carters has it on a regular basis. Thunder gun range in N Houston has it all the time, and Walmart and Academy seem to get small shipments every week now.

As far as reloading, I'm fairly new to it and I have a single stage press. It usually takes me about 2 hrs to do 100 rounds, mainly because I'm really paranoid about making mistakes. I do it at my work bench in my garage.

I was lucky a few weeks ago when I was in Longview visiting my folks and happened on the Walmart right after they got a shipment of Federal 45 ACP. Got 6 boxes for $15 each.

9mm has been easier to find. DH has been bringing boxes home here and there on Saturday morning's when he goes get his haircut at the place next to Academy.

I've pretty much given up on finding any in local stores or shops. When I have seen some, it's $45 for a 50/box, and that's just crazy for practice ammo. Haven't seen any at three local Wall-Marts nor at Academy.

I have found some on line though, and with shipping it works out to about $25 box. If I recall correctly, when they USED to have it at Wally World, Blazer was about that.

Here's one place that has some

Thanks Larry, yeah local is dry. I was thinking I need to start ordering online. It at least saves me diesel driving around looking store to store.

    <ahem> Okay, pinhead....:p...one more time....

How many boxes ya want? I can usually find 'em at WallyWorld - picked up some for the oldest boy the other day, IIRC, total was 23-25 bucks w/tax for 230 gr hardball.....gimme an idea as to how many boxes an' yer price point (when 380's were scarce, I picked some up for a guy on another board - he choked when I told him how much they were, since he'd bought some "last year for $2/box cheaper").
