I have watched these matches before for a few years, when my kids shot. Today I tried a few stages. Area 59 let me shoot informally today during a match. I shot about 100 rounds or so, skipped some of the (8!) stages altogether, skipped some of my strings too, to save rounds. I wasn't prepared to shoot, but some LEO's in our squad lent me some Glock 9mm mags. I had brought my kid to Area 59 to shoot, but they let me shoot too!

Cool! I wish I knew how to do that with video, posting it here. I took lots of short clips of video of my kid shooting. It was his first match in about a year.

I've turned a few people onto a program called 'Movavi Video Editor'. It's very simple, as far as editing programs go, so there's not much you can mess up. You can download a free trial on their website if you want to try it out. To purchase is only $40 and you can put all those clips together in one video.

Here's the match from last month, I'm still editing today's video.

But thank you for the tips on the video editing program. I may try that later on.

    That Texas Star is cool.

    That's a great run!

thanks! He practiced and shot matches in 2014 and 2015 plus early 16.
Its been about a year since he trained and shot steel. He like to shoot that little M&P and honestly, I might shoot one of those too, because it's cheaper ammo wise, and some of the stages had targets pretty far away. I think it would be frustrating to start sweating those far targets with my babyGlock.

Alternatively, I could lighten the spring on our Glock34. It would fit my new holster coming in the mail too!
Problem with that is mag release is set up for a righty, and my other family
memebers dont want to change it. However, maybe I can learn to deal.

Changing mags doesn't seem to happen under the timer all too often, so I could take my time.

I'm shooting for the first time our little M&P 15-22 at Area 59 Steel Challenge match tomorrow. So is the 13 year old son. Mom and son day. I'll bring my Glock 26 and new holster and shoot a few strings too of that.

It will be nice to learn to shoot the little .22 and I bet it will be rewarding more so than shooting all 9 mm at this point. Also cheaper!

If I mess up with anything on the rifle my son Jake will step up and help me lol.

    I did okay.

It's now time for the next month's match. My youngest son isn't feeling like going, but my husband is finally off call and so he wants to go and try it. He says we can both shoot the M and P 15-22 rifles, which should be fun and rewarding and cheaper than shooting 9 mm. Should be a fun little morning date together if not very very hot outside.

Oh my goodness. We all thought the pouring rain would blow past but it tricked us. It did let up a little and then returned in force. Husband and I did enjoy shooting in the POURING rain though. Got SO drenched and needed to nap on the ride home because I was exhausted from dealing with being soaked through.
My husband had fun, and we both shot the little 15-22. So, success.

Cross posting from kids at the range thread:

    IpzJ2o.jpg

Middle son Garrett at his first Steel Challenge match at Area 59 today. I shot too, same rifle. We had six 30 round mags so that was no problem sharing a gun.

He did very well and says he had fun and wants to come out again soon.

I had a nice run on Smoke and Hope today. 2.79.

Also beat the Hub’s time overall. Winner gets treated to lunch.

I have to start using chamber indicator flags for my M and P 15-22. Is there anything I should be wary of with these? Any brands recommended?

    hill co.
They are usually just a little piece of plastic and cheap so not much to be wary about.

Looks like lots of fun. I've been to a few but never could make the time to join in and compete. I think .22 would be path as well. Centerfire gets spendy quick.
