I'll start with - I'm not a "shotgun guy".....I'm mildly interested in some over/unders and the newer high end autos I find fascinating. Buy because I'm the "gun guy" to all my buddies, I get hit up on the regular to help buy/sell/value/work on, etc.

So a buddy of mine gave me a Winchester 101 - built in the early 80's that he wants a value on and possibly wants to sell. It's been used as a field gun, and it shows, but it's not in bad condition....one of my more familiar friends said he'd rate it in the 70% range.

Who could I talk with in the Houston or Huntsville area that could give me a good idea of the fair value of this shotgun? Or is there anyone here that would be able to ive me a decent idea of what I've got on my hands?

    Thanks!!!

I'll get some taken this evening.

I should prolly learn to read before I go and get a book subscription....
As an afterthought, if you weren't just attempting humor, I was referring to an online subscription.
Plug in the info, and it will give you a range based on condition.

An early 80's Winchester 101 in good condition will only bring about $750. Poor condition maybe $500
Barrels shorter than 28", fixed chokes, dings and scratches are undesirable.
Longer barrels, pretty wood and small gauge guns may be more desirable.
12 gauge 101's have a reputation for kicking like a mule.
You may want to ask your question on the ID and Value board at shotgunworld.com.
    I hope this helps.

101's are pretty decent as mid range o/u go. Assume it's a 12 gauge and probably 28" barreled. Probably fixed chokes. Keep in mind, brand new field grade models which now come with removable/changeable chokes can be had for under 1,000, so start from there. I sold one about 5 years ago that I bought in the 70's. I can't remember what I originally paid for it, but it was well south of $1000. Maybe around $700 or so. I sold it for $750. It was in in near perfect condition. If it's in good working order except for field cancer, maybe try for $450 - $550.

Here's a pic of the one I sold.

I just checked, there's so many variables it's pretty much impossible without having it in hand.
Unless it's some really special model, 70% grade, in 12ga is ~$550.
20ga adds 20% to the value.

    Oh well.
You have worn bluing, plenty of scratches, fixed chokes and some rust pitting. Maybe $500.
Make no mistake, that 101 is still far superior to most of the new $600-$1000 Turkish imports like Huglu, Cz and Mossberg.
