Sad commentary, but thanks for sharing
It is sad to know that things are like that around our nations capital, but at the same time it made me happy and appreciative of where I decided to live after giving up everything and travelling the country with no real endpoint in mind.

My wife claims the twinkie working at the convenience store in Boerne this past Saturday was giving my OC'd Springfield XDM the evil eye. I didn't notice it but the Frau was insistent that the young lady was glaring at it. Doesn't matter, as I was legally carrying and if that offended her, that's her problem. If I have to tolerate her nose ring, than she can put up with my Second Amendment rights!

It's still rare enough here in the boonies by Dallas to be noteworthy. I've mostly seen 1911s, usually in leather with one kydex. Sadly I haven't seen any particularly attractive holsters on display, though.

to date I have only seen one person OC, at a Saltgrass Steakhouse in Houston. And that's me traveling to the tune of about 4k miles /mo.

I still wear an OWB on the weekends, usually with my shirt covering but it ends up riding up every 10 seconds. I actually stuff my shirt behind it so the grip isn't chaffing my side.

I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that a restaurant allowed OC. Lots of them don't.
I carry OWB all the time now, but still keep it covered as well.

I carry my M&P Mod 2.0 openly in a Safariland ALS holster. My wife and I frequent Longhorn Steakhouse in Austin. We ate at Mongo Fire last night. Red Lobster last week. No signs.

I was 50/50 cc and oc, depending on where I was at. Now that I have a L2 holster, I oc majority of the time. I live 15 miles from Longview and hardly see anyone oc'n there now, last year I saw a lot of oc. Guess the novelty of it has worn off.

I occasionally see folks OC'ing bit it's pretty rare, but that doesn't matter as it was a step in the right direction when it comes to our rights. I wish more people did so as the general public needs to learn that the mere sight of a firearm being carried by a civilian doesn't constitute a reason for alarm, luckily we haven't seen many instances of people panicking (my law enforcement connections haven't shared any stories, and I haven't seen anything about it in the news) but we still have the issue of some businesses displaying 30.07 signs simply due to ignorance. However, after initially posting them, it appears some have removed them...

I wish I could live outside the city.

People would go ballistic if someone OC'd in Dallas/Uptown, methinks...

...and much like concealed carry, the claims of "blood flowing in the streets" have proven to be incorrect. In fact, it has pretty much been a "non-event."

I had to go buy some new wiper blades for the Toyota, and for the first time outside a gun store was asked what kind of pistol I was carrying. I was actually caught off-guard by the question, as it has gotten to where no one seems to notice; but the person asking went on to explain he wanted to get his LTC and only needed to find time to take the class (he was also a firefighter).

So that brings me to my query, as we approach the first anniversary of open carry in Texas, what have been your experiences? I don't OC a lot, as I cannot carry where I work (on a military base); but I try to do so as much as possible during my "off-duty" time. I've also asked a lot of police officers I know if there has been any issues because of OC, and I have yet to hear of any at all.

The greatest positive--outside of restoring rights we should have never lost in the fist place--is as we approach a new legislation in the coming year the lack of any problems with open carry means that Texans in general are not as fearful of firearms as a few may try to lead us to believe. There is finally real "hope" for our future in that we have leadership not only at the state but also the Federal level that truly supports the Constitution. I don't know how well President Trump will do, but at least he is a firm supporter of the Second Amendment; and there is no questioning where Texas Governor Greg Abbott is on the issue.

So I am optimistic, and while I do believe efforts to advance the rights of gun owners need to be prioritized (I believe a reduction in areas automatically restricted by law from carrying is more critical than Constitutional carry, although both are very important), I honestly believe we are heading down the right path and will continue to do so!

    Cheers! M2
This thread has been around a long time and I offer maybe some new comments from Massad Ayoob on the merits of concealed vs open carry. He mentions a few points that I have not considered before why concealed carry is best in most public situations. In the end its your call. And a few comments from a spokesperson for Concealed Carry Association of why you're NOT carrying the right gun.

Yeah, I've seen similar videos on the virtues of concealed over open carry. I haven't noticed cases of people being uncomfortable while I'm open carrying where I live, and there are instances where I prefer to conceal, some I have to by law. The fact is, I would prefer more to open carry. I want people to be comfortable seeing other people open carrying. We can't get to that point if everyone that carries is concealed. Don't get me wrong, if it makes you feel more comfortable to conceal, by all means, do so. I prefer to open carry most times out of comfort and accessibility, but I also use discretion.

As far as the USCCA video, I carry what I'm most comfortable and accurate with, and that's what I tell others to do.

I see an uptick of shootings around Houston, hell all over the country. It's a shame, 2 within 1/2 mile from my house in the past week.

I'm sick and tired of those types trying to hide the weapons. Open carry has been fine in numerous environments for me ever since it became legal. I think there's a segment of "our side" - if you can call it that - that are trying to hard to not offend and appease, that they make up ridiculous arguments that don't stand up to scrutiny or actual practice.

I would not consider Ayoob one of "those types"....unless that type is the educated, experienced, and pretty damn smart type....
