ADDENDA to the post above: That afternoon in VA, I found it amusing, after the CC License instructor laughed at my "old relics", that the old Sig-Sauer performed all 100+ shots without a single stutter.
Otoh, several of the VERY expensive and "customized" semi-autos of various makers were NOT able to finish the required course of fire for the license.
(One of the class-members, who had openly laughed about my "old junk gun" & who had brought a heavily customized .40 S&W to qualify with, managed to complete 4 magazines before it started "stove-piping" & he had to borrow another student's handgun to finish the required number of shots. = I'm somewhat proud that I kept my mouth tightly shut.)

There is a reason many "old relics" are still around today. I often wonder how I am still around, God knows I haven't really taken care of myself.

wow, 5 pages and no one has said P220. There's a reason I've owned about 10 of them. I think i currently have 4 or 5.

I would also consider a P227.. but have only owned 2 with minimal time behind them. My 14rnd TacOps would be nice vs a 8 or 10rnd P220...

Tough decision... I think for all-around, every day... a full-size P220 non-railed. Not hard to carry everyday with 8rnd mag, handful of 10rnd backup mags, and I've got 3 single stack 15rnd mags for when I want to shoot rap videos or gangster selfies.

    Sent from my SIG Sauer

    easy rider,

How well I understand that. = Had I known that I would live so long, I'd have taken better care of myself.

Honestly it depends on the situation! Is there Rule of Law? Is Ammo available? If the answer to the previous 2 is no.. I'll take a Colt Navy... if No to first and yes to second there are a variety of 9mms I think are sufficient from all major manufacturers.. Tops for me are the Sig P226 P320 and G19/G17.

With the sig P320, the trigger mechanism is the gun (serialized), you can convert it to several calibers. Not exactly cheap, but only one gun.

    Chirpy,

When I worked "way down south"/out of CONUS, I carried a pair of BHP & never felt "under-armed".

    HKhaltwasser,

I like the P7M8 but am decidedly NOT "rich". = The last one that I saw for sale was 1400.oo OTD.
    (For that price, I can buy 5 S&W Shield 9mm pistols w/holsters.)

    yours, satx

Was this recent? Can you pass me the information if it was? I'm not rich either, some save money where others waste it on small things.
I personally wouldn't trade one of my P7's for for 8 Shields, because it's still a shield. A good gun but far from a P7. I get it though, if you've never shot one and just see pistols as a price tag, and there again some people just don't like them, they're not made for everyone. I personally think it's a top 5 pistol of all time. It's the absolutely best striker fired pistol ever made IMO.

Maybe the OP should have put a price limit in his post....
Not reasonable. If I could have only one gun, I'd have no problem spending the price of a decent used car (or more) to get whatever I thought was perfect.

That's why there are so many European guns with price tags equal to a house. If the law severely limits what you can have, it only makes sense to buy the best, price be damned.

...P7... It's the absolutely best striker fired pistol ever made IMO.
Strongly agreed. I only have a lowly P7 PSP but I love the thing when it comes to actually shooting it.

But selecting it for my *only* pistol would mean that I'd be giving up so many of the things that I enjoy doing with a pistol - plinking with .22s and long-range competition, for two. I might actually have to (Shudder!) start shooting rifles! That's a bridge too far! :)
