How do I kill this tree?

I need a way to get rid of this thing for good. I don't want to have to dig it up and I don't mind if there is a stump left. I can borrow a chainsaw and cut it shorter.

We've cut it down a few times but it keeps growing back and the trunk keeps getting bigger in diameter.

Cut it Down Flush, drill several 1/2 holes top on the stump, Pour Non-Diluted Glycophosphate 41% (roundup) Not premixed;into the holes 2 times a day x2 weeks

Same as above but fill it with milk. The bugs will take care of it for you.

Great. I'll start with the milk because I'm curious about it. If that doesn't work I'll go to the Glycophosphate 41%.
We have an exterminator that sprays and dusts the yard every three months. I wonder if that would have a effect on the bugs doing the job?

Agree, cut flush to ground as much as possible and drill a hole or two (1/2" as I recall). Then Stump Killer @ Home Depot, Lowes (etc). I killed four Crepe Myrtles this way (& they are incredibly difficult to get rid of).

Good job suggesting the undiluted roundup. I have killed a crepe myrtle that way. Damn thing would not die. Now I am waiting for it to rot so i can the stump out.

Skip the roundup and basal spray with diesel and Remedy (20% Remedy). Must wait a few months before removing tree. Or cut flush to ground and spray the fresh cut with same. I've heard just diesel works too but have always mixed Remedy/diesel when spraying trees.

A slightly different perspective -

My HOA does not allow me to remove trees without approval. I didn't want to bother with that on a fig tree that was too close to the house. What I did was just grab a chain saw and "trim" it so radically that I felt sure it would die.

My next door neighbor even came out of his house to tell me that I was trimming it at the wrong time of the year and way too extensively. That was exactly what I wanted. Historically, the HOA doesn't enforce the rules when a tree is visibly dead.

The net result?

This year we had the biggest crop of figs we've had in 20 years.

Moral of the story? Don't do what I did.

That will not only kill the tree but everything around it including the grass and ruin the ground for years.

Came to post this. Remedy is what we use on mesquite stumps and has been 100% effective.

It'll cost you about $10 and a bit of a wait. Mix 1/2 gallon of vinegar, regular cleaning type, Epsom salt, approx. (1) cup per gallon and Dawn dish soap. pour or spray on it trying to include roots. Wait a few days, repeat with remaining. It'll be dead shortly.

Downside, everything else around it will be dead too.
