Hello all. I have a new to me 7.5" Anderson AR pistol in 223 wylde that I am looking to have converted to 300 blackout. I already have a 10.5" 300blk barrel I plan to have put on. Do I need to buy a new gas block, roll pins, gas tube etc.. for the conversion? Or can they be reused? Both barrels are pistol length gas systems.

Anyone to recommend having this work done for me in the Round rock or surrounding area? It doesnt need to be done at a shop. I feel pretty confident after watching some videos that I could do the work myself, but I don't have the barrel wrench and other tools/vise or space to do it at home. If someone in the area has the tools and ability or could recommend a shop I would greatly appreciate it. I am willing to compensate for your time as well. Beer/money or a slightly used 7.5" .223 wylde barrel?

only thing you need is a bbl (and muzzle device). BCg, mags, gas system, etc all the same.

would be nice to get an adjustable gas block, but not necessary.

You can reuse all of your existing parts with the new barrel. Get a roll pin punch set and a barrel nut wrench and you'll be all set.

I am still thinking of this route. All the build videos I have watched where done on vises. I only feel like i would need a vise to get the barrel nut off. Everything else could be done on my kitchen table. Anyone got one off and torqued back on just by muscle? I don't know how tight they are.

Yeah I read it's all the same just wasn't sure if a new gas block was required or if I could reuse the one on it. Thanks for the offer of help though!

you typically can't. unless you didn't care, and took the upper, put it on a lower, stepped on the pistol grip and then stepped on the armorer's wrench lol. depending in the type of nut, it can be up to 70ft lbs of torque, and the upper isn't much to grab on to.

some take less, especially with clocking/timing.

i ended up buying a 6" vice (about $60 at home depot. 2 2x4s, one notched for the bottom of the upper receiver. I have it mounted to the corner of my reloading bench, which is actually a heavy SS cart.

my neighbor went through the same thimg recently, bought a pipe clamp vice, quickly learned it didn't work. Now I do all his uppers lol.

I don't feel like I'll be building enough uppers to justify the tools right now. If I had my own garage it would be different story. I just need to swap the barrels on this one for now. Looks like Blackjack in Austin is highly recommended from other sources. Anyone ever use them for some smithing?

If you are looking for versatility in the same lower, there is a company called Pantheon Arms that makes a system they call Dolos. I plan to incorporate it into my next build including the Law Tactical folding stock adapter. Because of only needing to swap barrels, I am going to build a .300 Blackout/5.56.

Everyone has their own schedule. It's okay I still love the community. I have put the swap off to the side for now, more of a want than need thing.

I have seen a few video of that system. Really cool!

I appreciate that. My boss has a nice work bench with a vise. I think I'm just going to pick up a set of punches and a Aim barrel wrench and knock it out myself over there. It's something I need to learn anyway.

If you are still planning to do this, I could probably help you out. I'm doing almost exactly the same thing (bought parts yesterday) to convert a 5.56 carbine upper .300 BLK Pistol. It's a spare upper collecting dust, so I figured a pistol project was in order. I've done some .223 barrel swaps before and have some decent vice blocks. The one thing I really probably should have, that I do not, is a set of .300 blk Go/NoGo gauges. I'm not far from SA. We're new to TX (arrived on the 7th), so it might be a good chance for me to meet some new people.
