The last time I talked to the author it was at an NRA Convention "Bring In Two Guns for Appraisal" event. He took a look at one of my pistols, looked at the entry in his current book, and then promptly quoted a price of about double the highest price in the book. Considering that my example was well-worn, I was very confused. He pointed out a configuration characteristic that was super rare and not even addressed in the book.
That's why I asked if the OP had any weird guns. Weird guns == weird valuation problems.
The Blue Book also has problems when there are price spasms due to political problems but that's just the nature of the beast. When the govt starts to meddle, markets can become extremely volatile.

Welcome to the Forum!Good info here, I am in the same situation. I took a couple of my guns into a big box store and they valued them way lower than expected. Selling your self definitely better.
