First gun? Hell, I'm pretty much sentimental about every gun that I have!

But I have never sold a gun in my life. I've traded one, and had to give on back to a seller because of an issue it was having; but I have never parted with a firearm for cash.

I know the day will come that I may do so, so I have mentally categorized my collection into groups of what I would never sell (heirlooms and other valuable firearms), those I might sell if certain conditions arose (need cash and don't have it, which is not likely) and those that I really don't have a deep attachment for and may sell/trade one day for another firearm I want more.
The mere thought of selling them just for some extra cash is repulsive. :spank:

Of course, I also don't have any shit guns that I'd want to get rid of!

    Unfortunately, I do.

My mom was a serious garage sale buyer. She always asked if they had guns but never paid over $100 for one.

She loved 12ga shotguns. Thanks to her I think I have a half-dozen shotguns I don't need, mostly pump-action "riot guns". In fact, I think I have 3 Win 1200s; she must have really liked those. :)

I think she was also responsible for the .38 derringer I found in a drawer after her death and didn't even know was in my house. It's a piece of shit but I haven't sold it because I wouldn't want to foist it on anyone.

Then again, she also managed to pick up a beautiful Colt .38 snubby for $50...and several other stellar buys. Overall, she did fine. She had this low-key, completely inoffensive approach and got lots of people to go in their houses and dig out "that old gun that grandpa left" that no one cared about. I wish she was still around for a lot of reasons, of course. One of those would be to go out finding guns for me; she had a real talent for it.

Don't know why I'm waxing nostalgic right now. Mark it down to a weird mood, I suppose...

My first gun was a cheap bolt action 20 gauge. It had the adjustable screw choke, and I couldn't hit anything with that gun.

I eventually traded it in on my favorite rifle, a Remington 700 BDL. I did the deal in the early 80's. I had some work done to the rifle, and won't ever get rid of it. Planning to pass it to my son at some point.

I love that rifle. I've come close to buying other deer rifles a couple times, but talked myself out of it. I'd feel like I was cheating on it if I did.

My first was a Squires Bingham bolt action 22 my parents gave me. I traded it on a 12 gauge pump a few years later. Don't regret it much to this day.

I do have a couple of guns I inherited when my folks passed away. A Savage Stevens S/S 410 that was my moms she got from her dad and a Charter Arms AR7 22 that was my dads. I will keep those forever.

    sold mine after 5 weeks.
M&P 15-22. Paid over $600 in CA during the infamous 2012 Obama panic... Went high on the hog with tacticool stuff and had had to flip it before it got out of hand. Was a fun gun though.

First handgun was a SP2022 and I do miss it, but my buddy has it as his 1st and it's not going anywhere, which is cool with me.

    Sent from my SIG Sauer

    Dallas Hicks,

My FIRST gun was a circa 1910, 12-gauge single-barrel shotgun by RIVER ARMS, that my grandfather gave me when I was 10YO.
(When he gave it to me in 1957, I felt "very grown up" & "admitted to the company of men".)

A "fair market value" for the old "Long Tom" SB probably wouldn't exceed 25.oo but it is PRICELESS to me.
    (It's willed to my nephew.)

    yours, satx

My first gun was a Remington Speedmaster A. My dad upgraded the cheap sites on it with the sights that came on the later BDL model. I still have it. It's had thousands of rounds through it and can still shave a gnats ass. It's the only .22 I have capable of shooting shorts, longs, and long rifles. Although in my 44 years of life, I have yet to see a "long".

I thought we were just supposed to "acquire" guns, not sell them! Handing them down to relatives, etc. is OK. I've regretted something about parting with almost every gun I've owned and then traded or sold. :green:

    Same here.

I may have told folks that I've never sold a gun but I've racked my brain and it just occurred to me that would be a lie. I had forgotten that when I was 19 or 20, I sold my Ruger Old Model SBH to a neighbor.

I regretted it immediately. I think the memory was repressed due to the pain. :)

Now I've reached the point in life where my excessive stuff owns me and I'm considering making changes. If I do, the guns will be the last things to go.

I feel you Ben. I have been offloading stuff for about two months now. Selling stuff that never gets used, trashing stuff that is deteriorated due to heat, age, etc. Three big green trash cans full, and another recycling can filled.

Had five bags of golf clubs, sold two of those, two more are going by the curb. Only keeping one, which I use maybe twice a year.

Selling off kids sports gear that is no longer needed.

My garage is looking much better. I was even able to get out three motorcycles that have been buried. Sold one of those, just lost interest. Its a classic bike that I sold to someone who restores old bikes. Changed oil, filter, plugs, air filters on the other two. Can't decide if those are going or not. Bought both brand new, and they both have really low miles / hours on them. Ordered carb kits so they will actually run, hopefully this weekend.

Only sold maybe five guns in my life. The Sig SP2022 was a no regret gun. Didn't care for it at all, but love my metal Sigs. Traded a 20 guage bolt gun for a deer rifle, not regrets. Two I had to sell for funds. The only regret I have on a sold gun is a Sig P220 two tone I traded a guy on this board for a 300 upper, which he sold, so its not coming back I guess.

I don't count the two I "had" to sell as eligible for regret.

Do I regret? Somewhat. I would love to have my S&W model 59 back, but when I sold it I was young and had a family and they needed the money more. When I left my downward spiraling life behind in Portland, Or. I had several guns, and yes, certainly I would like them now, but my sanity was more important to me.
Although keeping and handing down guns is nice to do, there are more important things in life and I can replace guns.

I have regretted selling almost every gun I ever sold. There was 1 gun that I was happy to see leave. It was a knock off of a Browning Hi Power. I bought it super cheap, and sold it even cheaper. It suffered a catastriphic failure a few months after I sold it.

I still have my first gun - a Marlin Glenfield Model 25 bolt action .22. It's had tens of thousands of rounds through it and has never had a part replaced. My dad bought it for me in 1977.

Got my first one in 1976. It's a Noble single shot 22lr. About as basic as a bolt action can be. Blue books at about $40 now and it is still in pretty good shape. Still take it out now and again to relieve stock tanks of turtles. Resides in a safe with rifles worth way more than I care to admit. She's still a shooter.
