I have lost 46 lbs since Dec of last year. I want to get healthly and in shape
I am 6'7 and at my heavist weighed 325.
I've done it all by myself. No surgery, no pills, no diets. I just started eating better food and less of it. Its a simple mindset really.

My energy is a high as it has ever been it seems like and I feel awesome.

I have hit a big plateu and have not lost much weight in a month so I went to see a nutritionist to fine tune my diet and get advice going forward

They did some testing and gave me a final goal weight that is only 20 lbs away from where I am now. They said that I would have to work out for longer periods than I am now. Currently, I workout in the pool 25 minutes, at least 3 days a week.
They said to get into the fat I want to burn, I had to go past 30 minutes of aerobic and also do resistance to built muscle. As muscle burns more energy, it would get my metabolism up where my body was burning more calories

I am thinking of joining a gym and doing circuit workouts but would like to do more at the house with bands. Right now all I have a home is some 10 lb and 5 lb one hand dumbells

What advice can you guys give me?

Right now I am just riding my bike about 20 minutes most evenings. I have lost around 10 pounds in 3 weeks. I did this as you did by changing what I eat and less of it. You may try to add something else besides swimming. Try biking or even walking. Swimming is very good and uses the whole body but a different exercise will work muscles differently. A change may be beneficial.

Check your insurance. Some have major gym discounts. My BCBS policy lets me do month to month for $25 with access to most major chain gyms with no sign-up fee.
Crap I never thought about that

    I have BCBS
    Good idea

Don't forget craigslist. Exercise equipment is kinda like modern art. In most homes it just sits there and gets looked at. Sometimes it acts as a coat hanger. People that are in cleaning mode or getting ready to move will let some really nice stuff go for free, or next to nothing. Don't get in a hurry, but keep your eyes open for a deal that fits with something you can use.

Where are you located? I know of a great trainer that can help you reach your goals. His workouts are intense but definitely worth it. I've lost close to 30lbs from just following his workouts and eating right.

Run, walk, cycle, and eat less fats. You can do it yourself if you really want to. Weight lifting also helps. It just depends on how much you want to do to lose weight and get trim. It's a "mind" thing.
I was extremely skinny all my life (6'1 and 140 lbs.) until I started lifting weights. Went to 220 and had lots of muscle, 18" neck and 18* arms etc. Since I'm old now and have quit working out every morning, I'm still tall but back to being skinny.

Being active helps a lot. Start simple. How many steps a day are you taking?

Starting off slowly isn't bad. Once you start to see some results, it becomes easier to stay motivated rather than trying to dive in with both feet and getting overwhelmed.

    Currently I workout in the pool 25 -35 minutes 4 -5 times a week
I really work hard, upper and lower body
When I'm done I'm tired but 20 minutes later I'm full of energy again and feel great
Now I'm resistance training also every day in home
Free weights doing curls and I have an 80 lb band that I'm really getting into using
I'm going that abiut 15-20 minutes or so usually right after the pool workout
After a workout I get freaking hungry
I try to not eat much maybe a fruit smoothie or banana or protein shake

I'm noticing my salt intake is really effecting weigh ins
It's keeping water on for sure and water is heavy
I've started to watch salty intake like tortilla chips and popcorn

    I'm back on 1600-1800 calories a day
And managing protein and fat intake

One thing I got was a Sportline exercise watch with a chest band that measures heart rate continually. In programing the watch for sex, height, weight, it gives 3 separate heart rate zones. It claims working at 65%-75% of max heart rate will result in burning the most fat. Above that will burn fat also but alludes to burning what you recently ate. This adds just one more data point and isn't the whole story and answer. You could try one on and adjust your workout accordingly and record results good or bad.

    Good effort! Congrats!

Since you asked for help, please let me offer some. I was injured and lost my ability to walk, drive or even get out of the bathtub. My knees wouldn't bend at all! I ballooned to 6'1" and 297#

I got a giant tricycle from Walmart (Meridian) and that wonderful thing got me back to mobility! Soon, I got several quality bicycles and I started riding Forest Gump style. "Anything worth doing is worth doing to excess!"

There is a series of side roads here that allowed me to ride 17+ miles in a circuit and off the highway. Many times, I rode that circuit twice per day! In 2011, I rode 3,414 miles in the hottest, driest summer on record and recorded every mile in a TGT fitness thread! Later, I began to race against the clock and rode my circuits at speed. I was around 64-65 YO.

Cut to the chase, here. I lost 30 pounds, had legs like iron bars and was very fit. I also broke my ass! I was in severe pain and couldn't even sit down!

Went to several doctors, they put me on a repair program and I began the slow process of recovery. It took a LONG time to heal and I'm still not back to normal in 2017. I gained the weight back.

Started cooking every meal at home in my Wolfgang Puck pressure oven and started a thread about that. I weigh every day at the same time, and my diet revolves around roast chicken in many forms from soup to casseroles. I NEVER eat in restaurants! I dropped 32 pounds, and kept that off for nearly 2 years. Exercise is limited, but at 70 years of age, I'm never going to look like an 18 year old, again. It's OK.

Bottom line: Don't beat your body to Hell in the name of health! Moderation in all things is the key! A slow, steady approach to health works and avoiding any excessive behavior will keep you healthy.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Flash.
I don't want to be a weight lifter and compete for sure!
I just want to get my 6'6" arse back to about 260 or so
That puts me to within 25 lbs of when I got out of the military back in 1990

Losing the first 45 lbs wasn't a problem.
I just ate better food and less of it. These last 20 lbs are going to be harder they all say. It may take up to a few months , but I'm going to get there
I feel too darn good now and I don't want to go back !

I'd join in with adding weight training.
Speaking for myself, I don't include typical cardio such as elliptical etc.
If I'm hitting weights intensely and resting properly, that will increase cardio as well.
I supplement my workout with beginner yoga on my off days or days I can't make it to the gym, it really helps me.
I think you are spot on with the nutrition, and in my mind, that's harder than any exercise regiment.
    Congrats and continued success!

HELP! i think. i am 66 and need to lose my gut. i hate it!! never had one b4. always been active and ran, walked, dug holes (raised on a farm) lifted weights etc etc. THEN in 2010 had lower back surgery that has been labeled as failed so i go to a pain clinlc. then in 2012 had knee surgery then shoulder surgery. but i could still walk, and did. then left foot started hurting on bottom. dr. said i have no fat left on bottom of feet to act as a cushion. dr. says i have prematurely worn everything out. have a treadmill at home i use when i can. knee brace helps. i honestly don't eat junk much. don't like sweets. drink maybe 3 beers a week. maybe 3 shots of jack and ginger ale at night to get to sleep. ice paks are my backs best friend. guess i'm gonna have to start eating like a bird to lose the gut? think i'm gonna start cutting every portion in half and see if i can live with that unless anyone has a better idea. oh, i'm 6'1' weigh 230.

I'd also check with a doctor to get hormones, or the male equivalent checked out. Low testosterone, higher estrogen output, etc. can cause the gut. As activity decreases, I think these things get out of whack and just makes matters worse. Your activity is limited, so it's time to check on possible supplements maybe. Or find a different exercise regime that doesn't hurt any body parts.
