I'm not going to spank the newbie for being a victim of a crime.

The whole locking guns in a car thing is ridiculous. There are times when I have two choices- lock my pistol in my car or go unarmed all day. It happens because some moon-bat has decided he wants an unarmed victim zone and sometimes I just can't avoid it. My doctor's office is such a place.

Personally, I can't seem to wrap my mind around the idea that carrying my pistol into Walmart, the bank, a movie theater, a restaurant, the park, and a thousand other places is good, but this one place is bad and I have to disarm to go there.

I don't know if the criminals are smart enough to realize that such an unarmed victim zone is surrounded by cars with guns in them, but it seems pretty obvious to me- where would You go if breaking into cars was your main source of income?

I think all the breath wasted on this topic needs to be spent on the lawmakers that allow unarmed victim zones to put us in this situation.

I just wont leave my guns in the car, I have heard too many horror stories of guns being stolen out of the car. If I walk to a door and it has a 30.06 sign I won't go in there. When Im going to work (school) I don't carry.

Please post the model and s/n's of the stolen firearms. With over 29,000 members, these forum posts go to a lot of people! I hope that it ends well for you!

When a local gun shop was smashed by a truck in a hurried smash and grab robbery, I got the info about the stolen guns and posted it here. Lot's of people said they copied the info and posted it in their businesses.

    It's worth a try!

Did it happen late at night. And you didn't leave it out in plain sight. Or was it a random breaking and they lucky enough to find your firearms?

Sorry for your misfortune OP. I have a question though for anyone to answer. Why do most people fade out or cover the serial number of their gun on pics or as previously mentioned in this thread, not posted when said guns were stolen. What can one do with this info?

To answer why people fade out or cover their serial number of their gun on pics is because some jackass can decide to report that serial number to the ATF as stolen. In the future, that could cause you some trouble with the ATF and law enforcement. You'd have to show proof that you own the gun. It's just not worth the risk.

How would you go about proving you own a gun bought from an individual?
A large portion of people won't have anything to do with receipts, or acknowledge an individual purchase.

    Dawico,
There is no requirement to have a bill of sale for personal property. If someone stole your TV and you had the SN would you not be able to report it stolen?

Also pics of the gun with you holding it might help....and showing the sn too.

This is what happens when the premise is ridiculous and nobody points it out immediately.

To the OP, I hope your firearms are recovered. There is no realistic danger to posting the S/Ns for the stolen firearms. It may help in the recovery and may not.

I have a pic of every SN for every gun I own. Along with an Excel worksheet listing them too.

That is the thing. I have a picture of all of my firearms including the serial number and would go toward the investigation of any theft.

I just don't see how a person could claim a theft with just a serial number and no other proof of ever touching the firearm.

And no, I do not consider a BoS proof of anything.

Bill of sale, copy of the other guy's driver license and/or LTC? It's important to document your individual sales.
