You guys have no idea how much I love being a Texan, if not native, certainly by relocation.

This is one of thousands of reasons why I had to escape CA.

My office was smack in the middle of this mess.
There's pretty much gridlock whenever working humans are awake.

Since gridlock makes people crazy..the city council thought it would be a good idea to choke traffic down from two lanes, to one. "Traffic calming" they called it.

Thankfully, they're shit-canning it after a recall drive to remove the councilman.

Lest you guys think this was limited to one area...nope.
Long signals in other areas are also supposed to induce "traffic calming".

The snowflakes in some parts of Houston instituted the concept years ago, by name.
Another reason why I'm lately happier putting up with Arkansas rednecks ...
    Much more calming ...

Gridlock is calming. Right. Hour long traffic jams, downright soothing. Road rage and frustration, downright zen inducing!

And we wonder why Commiefornia is so far down the tubes... <sigh>...

I have seen Traffic Calming signs in Austin but never bothered to investigate what it meant or how it was supposed to work.

If we can believe Wikipedia, it seems the point is not to calm the driver but keep drivers from using particular areas by severely restricting its use as an alternate route. It also seems to be of European origin as well.

For the areas I posted about, there were no alternate routes. That's the problem.
