If that's your decision to sit on the sidelines while they trample all over you I am truly disappointed.

you can say all lives matter, and surely they do. They hold a black lives matter protest, and we don't beat the crap out of them. We let them speak to the point they shut down Bernie sanders rally. We should be able to hold a white lives matter rally.
Shit like actual concepts of reality just don't penetrate your brain housing unit, son. I'm all about free speech--as are the 99 and 44/100% of TGT'ers--but that's not what a "White Lives Matter" meet-up is all about (like neither would be a "Black Lives Matter meet-up). Both of the foregoing are racist in their aim, from the get-go.

Contrastingly, a meet-up aimed at saving a statue is about free-speech. A meet-up for "All Lives Matter" could be about free speech--at least with a lot more likelihood that the "WLM/BLM" meet-ups would be.

At least be honest enough to admit that the "they" we're worried about is the Alt-left AND the Alt-right. Mike, you seem to either be too dense to understand that or, we've got to conclude that you're in sympathy with them and we can breathe easier that you're outta here.

One of the first things that most gun owners and armed citizens learn is that you do not go to places where you think that trouble is likely to start. So, it makes absolutely no sense for any of us to attend a protest or anti-protest. We need to express our views in better ways, like letters, email, phone calls, and ballots. In my book the alt-right and the alt-left are just different views of the same set of mis-guided individuals.
I do not think that we should change the names of places or remove tokens of the past, good or bad, on the feelings of a few "snow flakes". There is nothing that I know in the Constitution that protects anyone from having their feelings hurt.
The idea of race is probably obsolete in any event. Finding any person that would not have DNA markers from multiple races is probably nearly impossible today.

And Six Flags has removed all of the flags, except for the US flag. What in the wide, wide world of sports is a goin' on. Wonder if they will change the name to One Flag Over Texas.

I will say... I have tried hard to figure all this out, and sometimes, the more I look the more difficult it is.

I feel a bit misled by Gavin McGinnis, because I trusted him to explain the alt-right to me, and it seems that the "sliver of lunacy" at the very edge of the alt right, should now well be applied to the whole thing. I watched this months ago trying to figure all this out, and because I seemed to share some political beliefs with people like Milo, (NOT white supremacy at all), and since Milo seemed to dance around the alt-right, I was trying to figure out where these guys fit in.

After watching this video months ago, I didn't really take the entire alt-right moment to be so horrendously bad as to be condemned. I did realize that the extreme end was based on racism, but thought that most of the group was not about that and that maybe that part could be excluded as fringe.

This is the video that I found "helpful" at the time; now I feel maybe not so much.

I think a lot of people may not see how wrong the movement is for the whole of it, and that explains the numbers of the movement that we DO see, even if they are still small.

And I feel frustrated that I did try to understand and give benefit of the doubt, and that for my trouble I was still astray from what I think is now likely right (I mean correct!)

    Sigh.

Gavin has been throwing walls between himself and the alt right for a while now. I think he may have been mislead by the appeal of the outspoken movement.

I was drawn towards the alt right, seemed to fit how I felt. Once I started doing more research I realized it was something I wanted no part of. I think you see the same thing if you watch how Gavin's stance has changed. He adamantly denies any association with the alt right movement.

Milo...I have no idea. Shapiro mentioned that he has proposed that the Alt Right create a new constitution which is when Shapiro broke contact with him.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who almost got sucked in. I did the same thing with the research and then said "whoa that's not me" but it wasn't clear to me that there wasn't really a distinction between the extreme and the other parts of the category. I bet other people are a bit confused as well.

I saw an interview with Lauren Southern who interviewed someone who was at Charlottesville at the march and they didn't seem evil to me or even misguided. I suppose blind spots can be the thing I'm seeing. I had argued with someone online that not every single person at that March was an evil white supremacist, but who really knows. This footage of the March I later watched certainly did seem damning and something I would condemn.

Learning what's happening behind the scenes, what the foundation is, and knowing how easy it is to become an unwilling participant in something they thought held their values is a big part of why I'm so outspoken against the Alt Right.

I resent their motive, and I resent that I was drawn in by the advertising. Works out great for the left and the white nationalists when people fall for it. Only losers are the good people who don't realize what they're supporting.

I believe he was just another troll.
I've kept quiet in this thread for that very reason. Something about the guy just wasn't right, in whatever that may actually mean. Hell he could have been a shill for some equally nuts left-winger group trying to "prove" that gun owners all fit some alt-right mold, leading of course to arguments for more gun control measures. OP, in my opinion, was looking for a posse in a (real or fabricated) "fight" nobody here wants to be part of. When that didn't play out the way he envisioned, he threw a fit and left. All the better, really.
