Walmart ID's both me and my wife when buying beer now?

Not sure if this is a Walmart thing or what, the clerk at the register breathed through his mouth a lot and I suspect probably looked at the sun too long at one point, but he said both me and my wife needed to provide ID to buy beer today.

Never had this happen before, I asked him does this mean if I'm shopping with my kids with me and I can't buy beer since they're under 21 and he said yes.

If I hadn't been waiting in line 30 minutes to check out I would have inquired further, but I think this guy is completely full of crap. Texas law does not state one has to provide ID, it's usually up to the establishment what they will do, but as me and my wife are both in our mid 40's I think it was more likely that this mouth-breathing kid has a thing against people who drink booze.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Texas law provides a defense for an establishment that makes alcohol available to a minor if the employee who sold it was trained in the law and verified age through what appeared to be a Texas DPS issued ID or a DL.

If an of age person is buying alcohol in the presence of a person who appears to be prohibited, the store should not sell the alcohol.

Selling to a parent with kids in tow is not a problem

TI is correct. Walmart policy is:
If the register prompts for an age, check ID.
Check all members of the party/group.
Parents with kids, you don't have to ID the kids.

The idiot needs to retake his CBLs. Some will do that out of fear or ignorance. Or a false sense of sef-importance.

At about age 50, I got carded upon entering the Dallas Night Club in Austin. I thought I was on candid camera but they were serious....

I have had this happen to me on a few occasions and it infuriates me to the point I walk out of the store. A 50 year old man should not have to show ID to some 22 year old punk kid. Let them keep their half thawed ice cream and chicken. I now take my money to H-E-B or Kroger where I am treated with respect and folks appreciate my buisness. I honestly have no use for Walmart or Target these days as most of the things I use to buy there now come from Amazon.

    Show them your CHL. :loaded:
I did that at the ticket counter before flying out of IAH a couple of decades ago. The ticket agent freaked out and in a voice dripping in sarcasm and derisiveness demanded that I show him "a real ID like a driver's license or passport."

Pressed for time, I did not handle it properly. If that were to happen to me today, I'd do a lot better. Complete success would result in getting someone fired; that would be my goal.

Just because he is 22 he is a "punk" and you deserve to be exempt because of your age?

I've been using my CHL/LTC to check into airports across the country for years without any issues. I also use when I vote with the same results. No one has ever questioned it...

And I don't understand the desire to get a person fired. The goal should be to educate them...

Although the Walmart CBLs do teach that, some go overboard. In the last few months the computer prompts have changed for ammo. Used to, all I had to do is tell it you were old enough to purchase ammo. Now I have to put in an actual birth date. Only have to do that for alchohol if I tell it you look under 40. Buy a hunting knife or pocket knife? You have to be 16. No age restriction on kitchen knives.
