I've decided I want a Sig 226 or Sig 229. Which one?

not sure about overall length, but the barrels are 4.4" and 3.9"

    Sent from my SIG Sauer

Yep, the barrels are only a 1/2" difference but if you put them both side by side for some reason its almost 1" difference. I could be wrong or maybe I just looked at it funny but it sure was longer.

Ive also wanted a Sig for a long time and narrowed it down to the P229 SAS in .40 cal. Besides being shorter and optimized for concealed carry, the 229 was designed around the .40 cartridge and was made to handle the higher pressures. I have read that it is a bit more robust therefore, and if your going for 9mm it makes it even sweeter to shoot.

I don't think this is a consideration since the 226 went to a machined slide.

A department I used to work for went to issued sidearms--Sig P229R DAK in .40. I hated that weapon--HATED. Six months into it, a good third of the department was still unqualified with that thing. I will say that as much as I didn't like it, I qualified (and with very high marks) on my very first attempt. I did not let that affect my disdain for the weapons and I did not hold back on my feelings. :meh:

Years after having left that department, I obtained a German Sig 226 and West German Sig 228. Either of those sidearms were far superior to that P229R DAK I had carried.

Yep, the P229 with DA/SA is nice but that DAK trigger sucks. I don't know why they would do something like that. Even the DAO is better than that.

I'm kind of biased on the choice, I've carried a 229 on .357 on duty for 16 years now and Love it. I have only one issue, it should come Stock with the SRT short reset trigger. Other than that I say 229 hands down.
