Moved to East Texas to avoid the Californication of Colorado... was a red state when I moved there 20 years ago, but the left has done a fine job of corrupting the state. The legislation they passed in 2013 (despite all the people against it) was really the writing on the wall I needed to leave. I've held a Concealed handgun permit in Colorado since 2010, and already have my TX LTC (got it before TX Driver's license while I still owned houses in both states- Colorado does not recognize non-resident permits- but TX does)

I work as a network engineer for a telecommunications company- been there a long time, so I now work from my home. I've got 4 kids- a 21yo that's still in Colorado Springs, 2 teenage daughters, and a son in 6th grade.

Started looking for where to move to a few years ago... between Colorado (high desert) and Arizona, I've wanted to be someplace wetter. My family told me Alaska wasn't on the table- I grew up there, but it's not for everyone. Wife loved East Texas- and being close enough to Dallas Metro where we have a testing lab (and lots of jobs if my employer decides to downsize me after 20 years of service) made it a great choice. 6 lakes within an hour of me, all larger than the largest lake in Colorado.

Looking for a place to get more familiar with Texas folks, been very active on a Colorado gun forum since 2006.

Welcome aboard! I've hunted the Western slope of the Rockies near Grand Junction for about 10 years. Its rugged and beautiful up there.

Welcome aboard. But be honest, you're really just running away from that mad pooper they keep talking about, aren't you?

    :roflfunny:
Close.. weird stuff like that is what I'm running away from... which has gone up exponentially since recreational weed was passed... well that, and the lack of representation.

I was in a conservative part of the state (Penrose, near Canon City)... I started to realize Denver didn't want to acknowledge we existed... about 60% of of the state population lived in the Denver Metro... so if you weren't there, they did NOT represent you- unless you agreed with them. You got one rep in the state house, and the rest pretend you don't exist. This was glaringly obvious in 2013.

Also, as I eluded to in the original post- I was tired of living in the desert. Penrose was like West Texas (arid, cactus, etc),but with less air (about 6000' ASL) and 30-40mph winds were frequent
