Lucas oil treatment makes gaskets and seals swell up. Give it a try. The worst that can happen if you're out $5.
complete waste of time and money in this case
The only use for that product is for slow seeping leaks where the gasket material has deteriorated over time due to heat

The Chevy Vortec wil also leak from the back of the intake. This would put the oil leak orginiating from the top of the back of the block.

    Maybe not. Worth $5 anyway.
Had an '87 Dodge truck with a 318 and both valve covers leaking and a tick in the front main bearing. Even with 50w oil. Had other oil leaks as well. Put in some Lucas. All the leaks and most of the tick went away within a 100 miles. Put another 75,000 miles on that truck before the main bearing went. Good stuff.

I did upper and lower intake gaskets first, and knocked out valve cover gaskets while I was in there. It was pretty apparent after I pulled those gaskets that they were in good condition. But hey, on the plus side - I've been having problems with that crap GM uses for coolant, but all my passages had a clean bill of health when I pulled that intake off. I was worried about what I might find there.

I think I found it! I started slowly tearing into it today and was checking out the back end again. The valve cover gaskets were looking fine as was the intake gaskets. I saw a ton of oil on top of the bell housing, and there was a little bit around the base of the distributor. It didn't look like much, so initially I accounted it to oil just getting spread around. So I pulled the distributor out and noticed a little bit of oil on the gasket. I remember replacing that gasket last time I pulled the distributor, but I didn't see any traces of an o-ring when I did that so I never put one back on. I went ahead and tossed an o-ring on it in the groove so now it has an o-ring along with the gasket. Then, I noticed the oil pressure sensor was loose. This was very well my fault. When I replaced it, I couldn't track down an oil pressure sensor socket (the one I got for the job didn't fit the oil pressure sensor), so I used a big wrench (27 mm, I believe) to tighten it down. Well, I was trying to be careful not to snap that small aluminum neck off in the hole so I didn't put as much torque on it as I probably should have. Sure enough, that thing backed out and was finger loose causing there to be a trail of oil on the bottom of the threads.

While I'm kind of kicking myself right now....I am SO glad I didn't have to do head gaskets or a rear main!! I'm just kind of surprised though - no puddles of oil around the distributor area and the heaviest amount of oil was on top of the bell housing rather than at the base of the actual leak. Even when I checked with my UV light - no real traces in the immediate area. It didn't start showing until I got to the top of the bell housing. I just gave the area a real good simple green bath. Once I put the engine upper back together, I'll be tossing the water sprinkler under the engine and giving it a real good bath.
