Choice is yours. Pumps are usually less expensive and easier to maintain. If you are using it for home defense only, then I don't think it would matter much.Is there a reason you want a pump vs semi auto?

Ok....not exactly new to shot guns as hunting tools but definitely new to the home protection game. I'll obviously try before I buy but what am I looking for these days? This part of the forum seems to have died out a bit and I was looking for more current info. What is the industry standard in home defense? Is the 870 still the go-to? How is that crazy Keltec working out now?
You can always modify it.Does that thumb safety on a Mossberg hold up any better now than they did 40 yrs ago when I swore off Mossberg when the 2nd thumb safety fell apart?
Modify it? Nah, just replace it with the metal safety from the 590A1.You can always modify it.
I did. I replaced the lost ball bearing with a #6 lead shot in the middle of a sunflower patchYou can always modify it.
That would be considered a modification.Modify it? Nah, just replace it with the metal safety from the 590A1.
Factory part, no mods. That would be considered a modification.
That would depend on what YOUR idea of modification is. Pretty much changing out anything from it's original parts to me, is a modification.Factory part, no mods.
Agreed. The shooter might also investigate fiber optic front sights (also found on turkey guns), to see if that helps their target acquisition.A regular pump shotgun with 18" barrel and sporter or youth stock would be my preference. No additional lego pieces other than maybe an extended mag tube and light. Either 12 or 20 will be fine. I've shot 12 for years but lately have been leaning towards 20 and not felt underpowered. #4 buck.
