Just wondering if the factory installed muzzle brake on my savage 110 ba stealth on the 300 win mag works? I have a precision armament m11 severe duty laying around that I was contemplating putting on instead of the factory.

It is heavy and I just added an MDT skeleton buttstock to it adding more weight and getting rid of the plastic collapsible buttstock. Weighs 12 lbs unloaded (300 win mag) Also since Savage's website does not say I called up MDT who makes the scope base and chassis system for it they told me they make the scope base in 20 moa for it. For some reason Savage's website does not list that.

As heavy as the BA is,the muzzle brake really isn't needed.
    It's about 9.5 lbs.

For a rifle that is going to be shot, by a lot of owners, from a bench 9.5 lbs. in a relatively sharp recoiling caliber is not all that heavy.

    I have a 110BA (Not stealth) in .338LM
Yes, is has the pretty huge round muzzle brake.

As I'm waiting for suppressor paperwork to clear I took the brake off.
Admittedly the .338LM has a much stronger recoil impulse than does the 300MW.....but DAMN!!!
It makes a huge difference to take the brake off the Lapua. I'm thinking the 300WM would be likewise.

If you, like me, shoot 100 rounds at a bench for every round you shoot at game the brake will quite likely make quite a difference.

The big 338LM has maybe 20-25% more energy than the 300WM so it's not a huge difference.

    Try it with.
    Try it without.
Quite subjective, but let us now.

I fired it yesterday with the factory brake on and it had too much muzzle rise since the factory brake did not have ports at the 12 o'clock position after a struggle I pulled off the factory brake and put my precision armament m11 severe duty brake on timed it and just have to go to the range to see if it will work better with muzzle rise. recoil is not bad with the mdt buttstock I put on but man the muzzle comes up a lot with the factory brake.

When the OP first posted,I was thinking it was the BA not the Stealth,I used to shoot a Savage 110 FLP in 300 WM for several years. It weighed around 12 lbs in shooting form with optics & ammo. I never felt the need for a muzzle brake on it,and I'd shoot 50 to 100 rounds an outing with it.
I did run a brake on my Ruger #1 that I hunted with, but it was pretty light!

With the Precision armament m11 severe duty brake there was less felt recoil and a lot less muzzle rise. I think it had less recoil with that brake then my 308 had without a brake.
