Take it for what it is. There are many different insurance companies set up for gun issues. If that is what you want I would say to research them and figure out which works for you. I don't believe a business like that would be in business long if they didn't actually do what they claim.

There are lots of alternatives. I picked Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network, Inc based on two differences. One is the people involved are well known in the firearms world (like Massad Ayoob and Marty Hayes) and the first year fee includes numerous training DVD's and a book. The training was worth the expense and since you document that you had this training; the claim is that you can better justify your actions as reasonable if in line with the training you have.

So merely owning the DVDs documents one had training?
Or do they require some kind of proof they were actually watched?

Most likely the equity in everything you own is at risk, particularly if a civil suit results ...
    this

criminally if you're in the right, nothing happens. you probably win an award.

then baby mama goes after you civilly and my LTC instructor was told by an attorney $250k just for the retainer.

I have been a member since 2013. Have not had to use it. It is not insurance. It is an indemnity contract. Read the posted signs out there in public places before you go into a building. I am not a lawyer. IMHO, there appears to be wording in contract they may use to limit or refuse indemnity if you violate Texas license to carry laws.

There are other plans available. The one I am with is https://self defense fund.com I suggest you compare the services provided and price and then decide which, if any, of them best suits your needs.

I believe you are correct l. The salesman at our CHL class did specify that. He pretty much said they will only cover anywhere you can legally carry with a legal weapon. So no better not use Lucille eithet.

Perhaps I lead a boring life these days, but I can't recall anywhere I go besides the PO that is posted against CC.

    Noticed that myself lately.
Might be those ugly 30.06 signs interfered with the snowflake's feng shui?
We need to make them uglier still ...

Long post and I haven't read it all. Most people are turned off by the marketing in the CHL class which I found informative. The teacher of the course gets a commission. Such is business. I have been a member for years and have had very good educational resources from them. The question people should ask before saying this is a scam, has anyone ever seen a report of someone that was defended and gave a bad report of TLS? They can not release names of people defended because of confidentiality. What plans does the average person have for defense if he/she uses a gun? Your local attorney down the block? It only takes one unhappy person with this prepaid plan to complain that they were not serviced fairly and they are out of business. I haven't seen anyone complain. On the other hand maybe they haven't ever had to handle a case.
Now, what insurance plans are good? I have bought homeowners insurance once and the company went under, I have bought appliance insurance and the company went under. Unless you go with USAA or some big insurance you are safe. Except AIG.

I go to a few places that have both (because they pay me money). My former bank also has both signs, but they are too small to meet the letter of the law. Didn't stop me from sending them an email asking why they would post and if they insisted on keeping the signs, then I wanted to close my account.

They didn't budge, I moved on.

That is not necessarily true. TLS pays the owner of the class. For example, many gun ranges have classes and pay for an instructor to teach the class. In that case, the RANGE gets the fee from TLS. I guess if an instructor holds the classroom portion in his/her living room and invited TLS, that TLS would pay the instructor a fee.

I don't know why you say most people are turned off by the marketing. In classes I taught at Shoot Smart and DFW Gun Range, about 80% of students purchased the plan.

Before you accuse anyone of being a scam, you had better provide some evidence to that effect! As long as that company provides the services rendered, then there is no "scam."

Now, whether you think it is worth the money or not is up to you, but before you make libelous claims like that you had better do your research beforehand!

There has been an ongoing debate as to whether pre-paid legal services are worth the money, but there is one company that provides similar generalized legal services for 1.5 million customers (for $26 or less each month, families and small business owners have direct phone access to a local law firm to obtain advice and counsel. Legal assistance is provided for virtually everything you can imagine including document review when buying a house or a car, setting up a will, handling problems with insurance company claims, dealing with identity theft issues and more. Much more. Various riders are also available including a legal shield rider, home business rider, and even a corporate record keeping option). Now the kicker, they've been doing so for nearly forty years!

What TLS is capitalizing on is a business opportunity, they identified a market and found a way to make money off of it. It's like insurance, you might be paying for services you'll not need; but if you do they are there.

And also like insurance, it's important to read the fine print and be aware of what coverage you have and more importantly, don't have!

So unless you have proof that they are not providing the services paid for, there is no "scam" here. Whether it is a good deal or not is up to you, and I for one don't think it is worth the money; but I would never claim it is anything but a legitimate business.

What I'd like to know is what the Insurance 'doesn't cover' (OK, it's not insurance, it's whatever you want to call it, so let's not do the semantics dance) like expert witnesses, travel expenses, and a whole host of things not thought of when and if you need legal help in a self defense shooting situation.

Or, are you only covered for the attorney when he/she is in court presenting/defending you?

Other expenses not thought about may have to be paid directly by you...

Plus, as has been mentioned, all coverage is often based on you winning your case, because if you lose, you really lose i.e. your premiums were paid for nothing...
