Next time you're sick go to your vet.

Touchy, are we? OK let’s talk apples to apples. My spinal surgery 12 years ago.: Total bill $28,000. With insurance total bill just $6,200. If I were a walk up (ok wheel-up with my problem) and no insurance I’d have had to pay the full $28k. With insurance the total was $21.8 k less. I’d have been gouged, like that guy was, to pay for what??? Illegals with no insurance??? Bonuses?? Something seriously wrong there!

BTW my dog got the same antivenin, Benadryl, tramodol and antibiotics I would have got (yes, different dosages so maybe mine might be tripled) had I been bit. Total meds for the dog $600. Likely the guy was delayed getting help (4 days in Hosp) so required much more care, but at those prices, betch’a he was a no insurance customer.

The word ‘funny’ is in the thread title so here’s a funny: guy in a foursome playing golf... wrenched his back getting out of a bunker and is in agony . He’s writhing in pain. There is an orthopedic doc in the foursome. The Doc does a look over, turns the guy on his stomach and maneuvers the spine just so. Pop! The pain is gone! The golfer gets up and thanks the Doc. “What do I owe you for that? It was a miracle what you did!”

Doc replies “ what about half what you were willing to pay before I fixed your spine?”

Actually, without insurance, you would habe probably paid somewhere around $4-6k

I had a ton of bloodwork done a few years ago. They pulled 13 vials. Total charge was just over $20k. Insurance discount was 98%, insurance picked up 80% after discount. I paid 20% (somewhere around $125). Insurance said they saved me about $19,875. After paying my $125, I asked how people without insurance could afford that. The lady who just took my money said the cash price would have been less than $150!!!!

Our medical billing system is so screwed up that it isnt even funny anymore (my wife worked in medical billing for years). Docs have to double, triple, quadruple, or more what they charge because insurance companies want a huge discount and a lot of times, you come out much cheaper just paying the cash price but then it doeant go toward your deductable, out of pocket max, etc.

My monthly prescriptions are $4 each cash price or $10 for 90 day supply. If I go through the insurance, they are $15 for 30 days or $30 for 90 days!

Guns have only two enemies: rust and politicians!
