    Out here by the lake!
If you aint been your down to the last 5 days of it. This weekends weather looks good with temps in the mid 60's & now rain in the forecast. The Highland Games is the theme so break out your kilts, bring plenty of money!

It's open Black Friday for those of you who had enough of the family over Thanksgiving for a 3 day weekend.

We are all long haired in my family.

Those braider folks at Ren Faire must have seen my middle son coming today. The two youngest are
    there with their friends today.

At any rate, we will be there both days next weekend and do the King’s Wine tasting. Without the kids.

    bring plenty of money!

I was there yesterday. Huge crowds like I've never seen. They had to shut down early because the electricity went out. [KHOU Story].

40,000 people attempting to leave at once, plus a wreck made for Traffic Madness.

With no credit card service, I bet the vendors lost several thousands in sales.

I saved a ton of money by sneaking two pints of Bacardi past the bag checkers inside my underwear.

Being a 30.06 venue, I open-carried my big ol' Cold Steel Chaos so as not to feel so naked. :-)

I’m getting the details on my garb worked out. Mixing it up a little bit but still dressing Scottish. Husband is forgoing the great kilt for his 511 tactical kilt...so I will wear it (his great kilt... five yards of wool!) as an Arisaid, because it matches better than my other one... to the black and red plaid Santa hat he wanted to add to his garb. I got a matching black checkered bow for festiveness. Will get a bow making crafty friend to make me a checkered bow for my hair.

Nice three night date (hotel away from home) for me and the hubs.

Having a good time. Today I’m ditching the five yards of heavy wool Arisaid. It’s just too heavy. I was exhausted after packing that around my waist all day. I’m making husband be the mule for all our snack and drink contraband today.

He’s ditching the sword today. It’s cool but cumbersome and we want more freedom to move today.

Also liked the wine tasting but packing those glasses around the rest of the day was a PITA.

Hoping a lighter day means a more enjoyable day. Although yesterday was really good.

They don’t check bodies unless you are highly unlucky. Only purses and bags checked for most patrons. There are always exceptions I’m sure.

My Arisaid (the five yards of wool around my waist has two layers.
A carabiner around my belt anchors a nylon drawstring bag of goodies under the top layer of wool fabric in my normal garb. Not today.

Today husband will just cram some snacks/ booze into the pockets of his tactical kilt.

That's a good idea. My wife wears a long wool skirt.

I brought in 4 Gatorade bottles of home-made lemonade, 2 Gatorade bottles of home-made sweet tea in my backpack, and two pints of Bacardi via inside-the-waistband carry style.

Next year I will bring empty bottles, powdered drink mix, and make my own beverages with water from their fountains.

It seems a lot of folks go to a lot of effort to sneak in booze. Why not just buy a two quart ceramic or stainless flask at the fest? I have never had anyone ask me to empty my flask on the way in. They have also never looked in my renfest shoulder bag which often has a bottle of wine or a fifth of rum, plus cheese meat and bread. Basically, if your in costume they don’t harass you.

Tailgating is a time honored tradition and with the premium parking you can get up close and spend pennies on the dollar for a short walk back to the car for a hearty meal and tank up the flask.

Me either, but this year they had guys digging through everyone's bags at the entrance gate.

Interesting. They didn’t look in my bag opening or second weekend. But who knows what they why they do what and when. On a related note Sometimes I don’t seem to see a cop in the whole place and other times they are all over.

We DO have an expensive flask that’s bought from Faire last year. Husband wears it. But we usually require more booze than that.

I have heard tales of those being emptied out. TABC does hang around the entrance gate from time to time, I hear.

And we DO spend money on meals at the Faire. But at $7 a food item and $4 a drink to mix alcohol with, it gets expensive quick. We spend about as much as we can afford on food and drink anyways. We just need to supplement our spending indulgences with snacks when we are there for eleven hours straight.

We DID enjoy the wine tasting, but honestly we are not good at appreciating the finer points of details learning about different aspects of wine. But it was a good experience.
I recognize the front of The Kings Wine Tasting in your picture.

It’s easy for someone to spend over $100 on food and drink at the fest and leave after a full day sober. $7.00-12 a beer and $3 for water will do that to you. Throw in a prime rib sandwich and a steak on a stick and the budget it gone.

Oh yeah. I ate once at noon and then started drinking at 4:30 and should have eaten again at that time but didn’t have time whilst rushing to get to the events I wanted to see. Mistake. Also husband mixed a drink he expected to share with me (huge drinking horn) but I just thought “yay! Huzzah! “ and began toasting and clinking glasses with everyone at the Pirate Sing and I left there real messed up. That escalated quickly.

I honestly don’t think I could handle walking back to the truck to eat something once or twice. Even if we did park close. My dress is huge and heavy and I have to kick my feet out each step so I don’t step on the hem.

Just walking to events we want to see through the crowd is a huge deal and husband often doesn’t snap that he’s walked ahead of me and I’m struggling behind by several yards.
