    In the woods...
I'm finally at the point in life when I can buy my two adult sons a nice Christmas present. I'm buying two identical pistols (1911) and would like to have then engraved. Something like, "To Wilbur, From Dad. Christmas, 2017?

    What do you think?
    Design suggestions?
Where would I have something like this done?

    Thanks!

Many gunsmiths could probably do engraving, but then most any place that has a laser engraver could do it, just not sure what places wouldn't freak out over a handgun as evil as they can be.

Call ahead. There are many trophy shops in the greater Houston area and they receive calls from folks that need NFA engraving so it’s not really a big deal. Are you going to engrave the slide or the frame? There is not a lot of room on the frame but you should be able to get a lot of work done on a slide.

    Great present BTW!

That's a very nice present. I would go with either slide engraving or the custom engraved grips like you said. I'm sure they will be very happy with the gift.

I like the grips idea best. I'd have them both engraved: For my favorite son (name) - thank you for making your father proud. This is for the inside of the grip panel (where a maker would sign them).

If you make this play - give'm the pistols and wait. When the first one gets around to pulling the grip panels, he will find the note. You'll want to see whether he calls you or his brother first.
