Green will store for years. Roasted will store for months.
Roasting green coffee creates smoke and aroma that will draw attention.
    How important is the coffee?

    Sam, tks

I believe the coffee is a natural energy and mental boost.
Is a trade commodity, you can trade for food, ammo, etc....

I work with coffee... and I have an idea to create a Prepper Coffee Storage (5lbs) with the variety of Brazilian Arabica for sell on our website.

coffee needs more than land and water to grow....

I agree 100% screw Juan Valdez.... and Colombian Coffee.....

It's a small tree like a hibiscus. You buy one in a two gallon pot for $25-$39. It'll grow in just about every state climate. 4-6 feet tall. In Texas you can put in the ground. Up north the plant needs to be potted. Patio grown.

There's nothing mysterious about it. It's a plant.

    Here and there
You could also always stock up on instant coffee type stuff. It has the caffeine and what not, and likely has a crazy long shelf life.

The other alternative for a caffeine / energy hit is getting a few thousand caffeine pills. I bet they have a shelf life that would outshine a roach.

I'm not convinced coffee is necessary (even though billions drink it daily) to "wake up". While I'm not expert, my understanding is the caffeine will prevent your brain from getting tired after it has already woken up; this is fine if you need to stay up later than you normally do. However caffeine in the morning triggers adrenaline which makes you feel more alert, however its the adrenaline doing the work, not the caffeine. You can replicate this "waking up" using cocaine, however this isn't a reasonable prep item in place of coffee :p Black tea sealed in its foil container can last about 2 years, probably a little longer; its just a little weaker than coffee in terms of caffeine, however no roasting, less aroma, and more antioxidants.

I've had a caffeine sensitivity most of my life and have to be careful with it; just 1 pot of black tea and I've got the shakes for much of the day, and going to bed a bit later. After trying coffee recently (I've been drinking low caffeine tea for nearly 10 years now) It gave me a week long migraine; I'm curious if it was the caffeine overload, or something in coffee itself. Nevertheless, I challenge anyone to reduce their caffeine and ultimately go caffeine free (no coffee, sodas, teas, anything) for a month just to see what its like. Since caffeine is a drug with a halflife of 6 hours, you generally have to taper down to avoid irritability and withdrawals the first week, but after that its just an adjustment in your daily routine.

My ENT guy told me to get off caffeine as it has been linked to hearing loss and I do have significant hearing loss. I am not off it altogether, but now mix about 2/3 decaf (Swiss water method only, no chemicals) and 1/3 regular roasted beans.
