Not sure if this is correct forum for this, but I'm curious to know about kit guns - not the kit guns mean to go in your kit when camping/fishing. I don't want to shoot black powder, or assemble and AR - but wondered what kinds of other DIY kits are out there?

Vendor recommendations? (added after original post)

All around crafty person, but limited machining equipment.

I don't see your question, just the question mark.
I think the question was: WTF? Your query is kind of broad. Do you wanna make a non-serialed firearm as in 80%? Do you want me to google the different types of build-your-own? Please s'plain more.

What are you looking to build? There's a few Glock based "kits" out there. Sarco has 1911 kits. A long time ago people were building their own FALs, but haven't heard that in awhile. Sometimes you can find Sterling or Sten kits; those are fun.

I'm not sure about the 80% part. Would be curious to build either an old style revolver, rifle, or a 1911, but I think the 1911, might be too complex to start with. I really don't know what's out there, other than a TON of AR sites.

An 80% 1911 frame would not be for you. But, Caspian/Foster make 100% frames that are very good quality. If you wanted to build a 1911 that is where I would start.

But building 1911s can be/will be expensive. They require special tools to do it right. Not so many tools if all you want is functional fitting.
