The only downside to Magtech I've ever known is that in years past Magtech ammo was specifically prohibited for use during the CHL instructors course administered by the state. They had the same prohibition against Monarch ammo.

I have no idea what the current situation is. If anyone has recently become a new LTC instructor, they could comment on the ammo restrictions.

Personally, I've shot lots of Magtech with never a problem.
Four years ago they wouldn't allow Monarch ammo when we shot the qualification for CHL. Reason given was, they had experienced too many squibs with it. They didn't mention Magtech though.

Can't say as I blame them. I still have most of a value pack of Monarch .380s sitting around that was mostly squibs.

Thats odd. I shoot monarch quite a bit and I haven't seen a squib yet. Was this steel cased? I have only used the brass in .380, 9mm, .223 and .40 with zero issues

Steel case, copper FMJ, cases painted green. You want it, you can have it. It's still got just a tick under 150 left.

That's interesting. What was the rationale?
The reason was, supposedly, that Magtech ammo wasn't SAAMI-compliant. I never bought that because the same info sheet listed acceptable ammo that nowhere near covered all the brands of SAAMI-compliant ammo out there.

They used to give a handout to LTC instructor candidates about their range time that covered allowed ammo. Here's a copy but remember that I know that what I'm posting here is outdated and I don't know the current attitude held by the state toward Magtech ammo. I just know they used to send this out to students:

    Damn, I don't wear hats/caps....

Might not be an issue outdoors, but at an indoor range hot empties bounce off the separator walls. I hate catching them with my face. Also, what sort of Texan doesn't wear a hat? Do you like having the sun in your eyeballs?

Damn, now where do you get me some point nine millimeter ammo?
