It’s a differentiation from shotgun vs rifle vs musket. All can shoot solid projectiles, but they aren’t treated the same.

Nothing to do with bullet tracing.

And I have no interest in this firearm.

Since I can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn under a spotlight, this might just be the right non-rifle for me.

Maybe I was trying to find some logic in a government regulation where logic was never a part of the process...

I am all for new gimmicks and tricks but this one looks like a pass for me. I hope they sell well and FA keeps making new things.

The barrel has lands and grooves but they are straight which makes it not a rifle.
The lands and grooves thing sounds dumb, but that article has an interesting idea. "...a permanently attached barrel to the receiver making the minimum 16” requirement measurable from the crown to the ass end of the receiver."

I thought barrels are always measured to the bolt face, or is that just with shotguns? ...or is it not even legally defined?

If all it takes is a straight rifled barrel, then I would not be surprised if Green Mountain and some other companies start getting requests for straight rifled barrels so that people could make their own firearm of this sort. As a PDW for home use, the distances involved are probably not such that rifling makes much of a difference. Using the Lee 230 gr cast bullet in .300 AAC if it is not stable and tumbles on impact, that's probably all the better for stopping power and limiting penetration, although it would not be predictable.

And what happens if this does become common? You can't tell from just casually looking at a firearm whether it has a twist in the rifling. Will there now be rifling police at the ranges to prevent people from firing rounds in short twist rifled barrels? Sounds like that would open up a whole new can of worms.

I seem to remember reading on the ATF site where the procedure was close the firearm, insert a dowel, mark where it came out of the barrel, and then measure it.

Its measured from the end of the barrel or pinned/welded muzzle device to the bolt face when the bolt is closed.

But $2000+ ? maybe the street price will be better, but no thanks... I wouldn't be in for that kind of gimmick for more than $800... oh, it comes with a binary trigger? pffft

I had one years ago (probably 35) that initially ran on Freon cans.
I set it up to run off a compressed air tank and it was much better

So how many rounds does it really hold? What I've seen is a 30 round capacity, but it sure looks like they're just referring to the standard 30 rd AR magazine size, right?

Full auto and only 30 rounds sounds like it would take the fun out of it. That's only like 2 seconds of shooting before it's empty.
