I’ve been looking at GSW training to take in Central Texas. After Las Vegas and the Sutherland church shootings people have said that important training to have in trauma care but it amazes me how few choices that they have in that area of first aid. Considering how much people in and out of the shooting communities emphasize first aid you’d think we have more options. Anybody else have thoughts on this?

I've learned First Aid 35 years ago in Germany and I'm certain nothing at all has changed since then and I also remember every little bit of it. /s

I learned a little too in ROTC and Basic training and on the job related to CPR. I’ve noticed lately use of tourniquets and CPR has changed. Figured I’d brush up and hopefully learn a little bit more.

Yeah, I was being facetious. Tricks I've learned back then took ages to come to the U.S., and now they're already considered obsolete again and not recommended anymore, as such, to wit, the recovery position. I'm not even sure anymore what the current recommendation is.

That's not even going into legalities.

I've had several first aid courses and can sum them up with 3 rules:
    1) Stop the bleeding.
    2) Stop the bleeding.
    3) Stop the bleeding.

That'll tide you over until you take the course.

Sorry... the very FIRST rule in first aid is: protect yourself first.
We can all clamor about heroics and shit, but you ain't helping nobody if you electrocute yourself, get run over or set yourself on fire.

Followed by: airways, breathing, circulation, the ABC of First Aid.
THEN we come to Dripping blood all over the place, for the ABCD ;)

I remember every merit badge in Boy Scouts made you learn first aid.
Now 10 years later and working in corporate America with folks that think I’m evil for carrying a pocket knife. I too need a refresher!
