Every time the nonsense of banning certain types of weapons in this country comes up, I ask myself how could any put together a sensible process to take these guns away from the millions of law abiding citizens? This is not a nation of sheep, although millions have already taken on the lambs wool coat for themselves, and the vast majority of Americans are not going to let anyone deprive them of their civil rights.

Gun control advocates always crow about Australia but there is simply no comparison between that sparsely populated British offshoot and this nation.

Of course, the answer is simple because those who are demanding these actions are only interested in their own political or publicity agendas and have no interest in any of the practical issues or realities of the complex issues that have led to this nation's refusal to deal with mental illness and lawlessness in general. Our fathers would never have believed that this country would one day tolerate all manner of evil and lawlessness and allow it to not only go unpunished, but to protect the rights of those who would openly rape, rob and kill others without remorse.

Anyone with half a brain has to understand that each year we pass more laws and yet allow more and more people to break them with impunity.

All I can say is "let them try to take my guns. If you think you have seen rebellion in the past, you ain't seen nothing yet!"

I figure it would be slow and sneaky. Some kind of tax/fee collected by IRS of gun owners, FFLs, LTC holders, etc with the tax ‘earmarked’ solely for firearm related expenditures.

Once the list is compiled, raise the tax continually until you can’t afford it. Then, pick your poison; volunteer turn in or seizure by law enforcement.

Time and ever increasing restrictions... taxes, fees (disguised taxes), then not allowing transfers, then not allowing inheritance... death by a thousand paper cuts.

There will always be some that slip thru, and they will villify anyone keeping "an arsenal" by saying they were planning a mass shooting. They already try to associate gun owners with the mentally ill comitting these despicable acts. They will keep it up until enough people believe it to accomplish their goals.

For me it was getting up this morning and reading the daily stream of trash about people turning in their guns from guilt, more publicized demands for gun control, etc. That, and a rainy Sunday morning here...too cold to go out and too hot under the collar to keep quiet.

When they came to confiscate guns during Katrina, not ONE person used armed resistance. Those that do will be killed.

Gun confiscation in US will be as easy as AUS/UK, as most Americans have too cushy a life style to give up. At most you will see a rash of boating accidents.

With no place to legally/safely shoot your guns, the culture will dissolve and all those boating accident guns will forever stay at the bottom of the lake.

The small number caught/ prosecuted will get tarred and feathered, mostly by the [former] gun owners, much like we see to day when someone is caught violating some gun law. Nothing a gun owner hates more than seeing another gun owner "get away with something."

Add in rewards to rat out your neighbor and gun grabbers will be saying wow that was so easy we should have tried decade ago.

They could do it the same way that it was done before — NFA 1934.

    From https://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/National+Firearms+Act+of+1934

In the 1930s, the United States faced a run of much-publicized gangster violence, led by such well-known criminals as John Dillinger, al capone, Baby Face Nelson, and Bonnie and Clyde. The sensationalistic aspect of their crimes convinced the administration of President franklin d. Roosevelt that something needed to be done to control the spread of weapons into the general population. U.S.Attorney General homer cummings and his staff began the process of drafting recommended legislation that would achieve this goal.Cummings and his staff quickly determined that, rather than ban weaponsand run afoul of the Second Amendment, they would try to tax such weapons out of circulation. As originally proposed, the NFA covered a fairly broad range of weapons, but as passed by Congress, it's scope was narrowed to cover only "A shotgun or rifle having a barrel of less than eighteen inches inlength, or any other weapon, except a pistol or revolver, from which a shot is discharged by an explosive if such weapon is capable of being concealed on the person, or a machine gun."

...and also required for firearms sold before the effective date of the act, that "every person possessing a firearm shall register, with the collector of the district in which he resides, the number or other mark identifying such firearm, together with his name, address, place where such firearm is usually kept, and place of business or employment, and, if such person is other than a natural person, the name and home address of an executive officer thereof."
How high a tax would you willingly pay for each _______?

Don't enjoy the subject either, however we are just one election away from a government that is willing to take our weapons. Or at least try. And or continue the incrementalism of step by step banning.
Government requires Car Insurance not to protect you from your own accidents, but to pay others and insurance companies. Imagine the posts here looking for a fair price on gun insurance that will pay the criminal for their actions. But won'r replace your gun or reimburse the legal expenses of protecting yourself. Can we not call $25 a round for your $1200 Kel Tec .380 the banning of guns?

Wanna know how they'll come for our guns? Look to California.

As to the comment that there was no armed resistance to the Katrina confiscation - that's simply false. While there WERE a good amount of citizens giving them up, there were also ones who banded together against the government and stood thier grounds. I know of one case where a guy I knew who was helping out in New Orleans while he was in the Army came up on a house surrounded by local LE. He was briefed that the occupants inside wouldn't let the officers in, and there were a few on the front porch shouting obscenities and throwing the occasional middle finger. The officers couldn't leave until the situation was resolved, but they weren't going to fire/move in unless there was an imminent threat. So this guy and his fireteam (4 man team for you non-mil) went up to the house, and asked for thier side of the story. Of course it was the officers wanted thier guns, but they weren't going to give up thier means of protecting themselves and thier families. With thier permission, the fireteam and residents went inside to talk things over. From there, they sat around shooting the shit, playing cards, and wasting time in general. About 30 min later, this guy poked his head out the door and told the officers they had the situation under control but needed the officers to leave as terms for the residents to comply. About an hour after the LE left, the fireteam shook everyone's hands, told them to stay safe, and pushed on with thier patrol. No guns grabbed, freedoms were saved.

There ARE people working for the government who put the people before the politicians.

I read an article about the cost that was enlightening. Buying back just a third of the guns in circulation (like they did in Austrailia) would be brutally expensive, $50,000,000,000.00 or so if you paid $500 a gun. Even on a Federal scale, that’s noticeable money.

Not many and very much the exception.
Actually, almost all of the active duty officers and NCOs I know at Ft Hood say they would refuse an order to confiscate. They know the law and constitution. You would be surprised at the number of people that think they do but don't.

They're not going to confiscate anything. It's a logistic nightmare. The easiest and most direct control they have is Taxation.

Pay very close attention to the price of ammo. With the possibility of background check for it and laws that restrict the hell out of who's allowed to sell it. Also remember the no fly list. Step by step in controlling the ammo out of your hands.

Considering how much they hate everything you believe and stand for. I'd expect it sooner then later.
