Wish I could reorganize my garage in one day! After two daughters moved out and I retired from the construction business, I've got more crap than I can haul off, much less sell! :green:

Actually it was 2 days of solid labor. I have woodworking tools, metal working tools, air tools, reloading stuff, and every tool a mechanic really needs in a 1-1/2 car garage. Oh, and I forgot the Buick LaCrosse that’s parked in there. Took some major reorganizing to get it all in there in an orderly fashion.

Started prepping some .223/5.56 brass to convert it to 300 BLK. Only doing 10 until I make sure they work. Dies, trim guage, etc along with all the parts to build the gun should be here tomorrow! View attachment 131374

Guns have only two enemies: rust and politicians!

It’s a good start. Let me know if you have any questions. I’ve been converting brass for my Blackout for a few years now.

I've never been clear on the necks when converting... Do you need to turn the necks? Are they too thick from the 223 brass side wall?

Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk

Some brands of brass are too thick in the new neck area to use without turning but there are plenty of brands that will work fine as is.

My buddy and I spent an evening and chopped a few of every brand of brass we could find. S&B was the only one that had too thick of a neck that we found in readily available commercial brass. I use mostly LC and WCC. No need to turn.

Have you deprimed already? If not I would do that separately. Maybe I'm just ham-handed but I've bent a couple of decapping rods forming brass.

I deprime as a first step. I like to work with clean brass too.

Harbor freight has this tiny chop saw that works great. I cut them off at the base of the shoulder. Then I run them through the 300 dies prior to trimming.

It takes a bit more trimming, but they work perfect.

The saw is about $20. You probably spent more than that on coffee.....

You don't need a jig. The saw has a vise to clamp it down on your bench. And another little vise to clamp the shell casing down while cutting. Its amazingly simple and easy. FYI, I advise using the little clamp. That blade is turning some serous RPMs.

Just slide the case to where the saw cuts it at the base of the shoulder. That is short enough to allow sizing the case, and long enough that it requires a trim after sizing.

Only problem I had was my hand cramping about half way through trimming with my Lee trimmer. It chucks onto my cordless drill. Holding the trimmer / case length gauge resulted in the cramp in my hand.

The vice works, but is slow.

Spend the money on the original jig. Not the crappy plastic one on E-Bay (it is sloppy, and not durable). I’ve cut down thousands of pieces, and the jig helps a ton. You can buy it from the fella on the 300BLK forum. It is really well made, and super solid. The jig will at least triple your productivity. It’s worth it.

My buddy rigged up a jug to catch the brass as you punch it out of the jig.

I loaded up some test ammo for my little brother.

168 gn Nosler AccuBond Long Range over Varget, in Hornady Match brass.

The other night, I loaded up 750 pieces of 9mm, after my test loads proved good. Got a container full (I use the clear plastic container that nuts come in). Should keep me busy for a while.

Converted 50 rounds worth of 223 brass to 300 blk. And loaded 20 rnds for tomorrow.

165 gr hornady SST over 15.7 gr of IMR4227 OAL 2.235 with crimp.

Yea I was lazy and didnt retumble the brass. It was clean, its just been sitting on the shelf for a year or so. Going to test these out tomorrow and, if they work, load out a bunch more. Should be fun in my new toy! PSA 7.5" AR pistol. Next round of loading may be subs! I have a box of 20 220 gr remmington subs to try out as well.

This is my first AR, so still learning the ropes! Put it and a 18" .223 wylde together last night. The .223/5.56 will be for pigs/yotes (built to mount NV scope on) and the pistol will be a truck/lease gun.

I've been shooting the 125g Nosler ballistic tips in my 300. I love the velocity, and they are very accurate. I don't recall the powder I used at the moment, but it wasn't 4227 due to the lighter bullet.

H110 works great with the Nosler 125. Makes for an awesome target and small varmints round. It is not as reliable on pig and larger game as the Barnes TAC-TX 110 gn.

I emailed the repack box guys. Long story short, I'm getting 100 9mm boxes now for really cheap.

Yesterday I cleaned, sized, and trimmed about 75 460mag brass. **** the Lee case length gauges. I have 3 busted up knuckle.

After that I setup my pro 1000 to run some 124gr HSTs using the new powder. Best part was I didn't even have to adjust my powder drop. The charge of lovex is apparently the same volume as the 231 charges I was using with my cast loads. Ran 15 more test rounds to take out next weekend.

Also cleaned and sized about 350-400 223s. I'm gonna have to bite on the case trimmer though. I have a little over 1000 that I need to trim. Anyone have any experience using the hornady can lock trimmer? Looks like it uses regular old shell holders. I like that.

Pony up for the Giraud Tri-Way

About $100, but it trims, debur and chamfer the cartridge all in one step.

    http://www.giraudtool.com/Tri Way Trimmer.htm

The next best thing for high volume trimming is the Worlds Finest Trimmer. They just trim, but do a spectacular job of it.

If money is not an object look at the Giraud power trimmer, or the Dillon.

I process 223 by the 5 gallon bucket full.

If you are doing a large amount the jig is awesome. I borrowed the saw with an aluminum jig from another member.

Had a tray to catch the cut off necks, another tray behind the saw for the trimmed brass. I could flick the rim after cutting and they'd flip back in the other tray.

Still needed a little trim after sizing but not much. I cut several hundred pretty quick that way.

You have a picture of the jig?

Need some advice. I'm torn between the world's finest trimmer and the frankford square trim and prep station.

The WFT is a little over half of the cost. The trim station can do more calibers. I know those trim stations have a high demand and I've seen people talk about wanting them. But has anyone used one? Is it worth it for high volume?

    I've been considering Lil' Gun.

Think it shows a little higher velocity by the book but it's based on a 16" barrel.

Otherwise I've been having luck with Win296(H110) as well.

I don't have a trim station but I did get a Lyman prep center. Love it for chamfer/debur process. Does well for primer pocket uniforming also but I tend to only use that for removing crimps.

I deprime and tumble in stainless media so don't mess with the primer pocket cleaners. Not all that impressed with the little flat tip screwdriver looking attachments for the job in general though.

So the plastic piece has agile that holds the shell in place? Not completely sure what I'm looking at.

The case is sitting in an aluminum piece. That aluminum piece is the jig.

You clamp the jig in place using the clamp built in to the saw. The case sits in the jig with the case head against the small nub at the back.

Just drop a case in and slide against nub, chop, flip it out, repeat.

Works really well. Will last forever.

Looks like I need to get the jig. I did about 300 last time. This would seem to make it faster.

What keeps the case from spinning in the jig while cutting?
