I wouldn't worry about this particular move by Trump. The ATF has already stated they have no authority to regulate bump stocks, just as the NRA knew they would when they asked to have ATF look at it.

    Huh?

ATF issued an RFC in the Federal Register last month to ban bump stocks. The results were by end of month and Trump just greenlighted DOJ to make it happen. This is pretty much a done deal. The only question is how far are they going to reach, binary triggers too?

You know... maybe we collectively shouldn’t have given them (the government) any “free” information that they asked us for about this stuff, like the submissions to the website. Maybe they will just use the info they collected from us, against us.

Wonder when it’s time to give up and just give the finger?

    Too soon? Probably yeah.
(I just like the idea of giving the finger).

I pretty much saw this day coming when the NRA pretty much threw them under the bus. I don't have much use for bumpstocks, but I certainly don't like the precedent this sets, even if it doesn't get settled by the federal government.
Yep. Machine gun has a codified definition that an alphabet agency can now potentially change on a whim. And, the Crown can seize something you own legally without payment.

Soon we'll have to rent our house from the government in perpetuity. Oh, wait, nevermind...

No one in his administration pointed out to him that bump stocks had nothing to do with the Parkland murders. It seems like they're tossing out bump stocks as a sop to the whining teenagers that are being marshaled by the "resistance". I'm disappointed.
Its a "bone' if you are a dog or a Hush Puppy if you are a kid. The drumbeat to ban guns is getting louder and while I pray and don't think Trump will fold, he is tossing a bone to the anti's.

We can fix this school shooting mess, but the LEFT does NOT want to. Its a special kind of STUPID that created Gun Free Zones to begin with. He is the deal and I will put my money. Every person that is ANTI GUN, I will pay to put a 24" square sign in front or YOUR house that says: "This Home is a GUN FREE ZONE" and we can start with Pelosi and Schumer...see how long that lasts.

Now I don't have a sign that says I have a gun, but I have a sign that says:

"This gate is locked for your protection, NOT mine!"

The RFC you mention is the 100,000 comments that haven’t been reviewed yet.

I just checked the Federal Register (updates daily) and nothing has been done.

Realize that in fed speak, a Rule is a regulation and has to follow a slow, tortuous process and analysis. Add to that, Trump has directed the cut 2 to get 1 rule. So, to be proposed for comment, the agency has to identify which 2 will be cut to get the one new.

Now, the analysis part is where rules die. There’s a cost-benefit analysis that has to be completed. Generally speaking, for a rule to be approved, the cost-benefit analysis has to be in favor of the government.

To understand this move, you have to understand the process.

    It was 36,000.

Lots of folks didn't think ATF 41F was going to happen either. I was the only one in the industry right the entire time. This one is a little different, as it is being requested by the White House, not NFATCA.

Ah, gotcha. We’re thinking of different NPRMs.

What, exactly, do you want the NRA to do? Be specific.
For me it’s more about what I want them to NOT do.

To NOT be a BITCH about any cut to 2A.

To NOT come out out the box after a shooting, practically requesting that government reevaluate bump stocks, with a slant suggestive of a needed limit on our rights, with a COMPLETE lack of PROOF that that limit would have mattered in any such way in preventing or lessening damage in the shooting.

If they could just not do that, it would be great.

So how long do you give it for such an action to take place?

I do not expect it to take as long as 41F which was a 6 month comment period, a year to sit on it, and then a 6 month implementation notice. I am thinking 6 months total. And keep in mind, Congress can still act too, so it is a 2 front battle.

I'm trying to think about how you could actually implement a 4D chess... You could move a piece forward in time the number of turns that it moves in space, taking it off the board until that number of turns has passed. The movement in time and space would be concealed from the opponent; they would just see the piece disappear. If there is a piece on the square that the time shifting piece was moved to when it re-appears, that piece will be destroyed even if friendly. The piece re-appearing would take that turn of the player. I'm thinking only bishops and knights should be able to time shift. Obviously this could only be implemented on a virtual board.

Trump is backed by the NRA, and what the NRA did was kowtow to the leftists in suggesting there was a problem of bump stocks and devices that help accelerate semi-auto fire, when they said the BATFE should reevaluate them. Trump is now following through with what seems like a recommendation by NRA, and in that it's my opinion that the NRA now will not be in a position to oppose any such measures.
