Those driving the political and media agendas refuse address root causes. I think the culture change is driven by the content of TV, movies and video games. Turn on the TV any night and see actors with high volume weapons and explosives shooting up and blowing up entire neighborhoods. NCIS-NO starts with a song boom boom boom boom, bang bang bang bang and bullets fly everywhere. NCIS-LA, SWAT, Hawaii 50, just to name a few, are all about how many bullets can be fired in a 60 minute show. And, how much stuff they can blow up. Let's get our efforts pointed at root causes.

And cutoff all the flow of all the sweet, sweet nectar from Hollywood?

We have so devalued life in this society. We continue to desensitize and condition our kids by what they watch and play, we mock God, we mock patriotism, and kids are being brainwashed 24-7 at home by crappy parents and crappy teachers with an agenda. I am speaking in generalities but how we got here is not a surprise.

Bingo. And being a parent in this culture’s not been easy. We’ve not been anywhere close to perfect, but one can pray good enough.

Figure this thread is "close enough" for this...
What I consider to be a well thought out article.

A decent article- it does miss one of my pet peeves... Many gun control activists are downright dishonest, will deliberately skew statistics and even outright lie because "the ends justify the means"... I cannot trust anything they stand for once they take that stance and will not denounce false information.

Maybe I don’t watch enough TV, but I don’t know of any shows that actually glorify killing. Example?

I know there is music that does that for sure.

I can't come up with titles off the top of my head, but most are movies or pay television shows.

These might not "glorify killing" but they do glorify throwing around as much lead and explosives that you can get out in one hour. This is using deadly forces to sensationalize. And, it is impressionable.

I'm from the school that children should be seen and not heard.
Then again, it is arguably the ignorance and immaturity of the parents that has let them down.

Yeah I can see that. And I could see it being impressionable. I was thinking of glorifying like making it look like the cool thing to do. Kind of like a lot of rap music these days or grand theft auto games. But you are right on that. I do think that has still been around for a long time also and while it could play some part in these people’s actions I don’t think it is major factor. Violent films and shows are watched by millions of people that do not turn around and commit these outrageous acts.

What they should show is the mountain of paperwork a LEO is faced with after they use their firearm. They don't shoot someone in the morning and be back out on the street in the afternoon.

True Tonyt79. I think that when you look at the 'impressionable' people you have to consider the normal curve of mentality. Some at the extremes absorb more over time and are, you might say, brainwashed easier. Where the average can take it without any issue. It may be those at the extremes that get too much and snap. Me, I just don't watch those shows. They turned me off very early.

It's not just the graphic violence, because violence in the real world can be very graphic. To me, and I'm guilty of it too, there are many shows in this day and age that get you rooting for the killing to continue, when morally if it was real, that would be wrong. It's hard to watch movies like John Wick, who in real life would be a bad guy, and not root for him to kill other bad guys. Movies and shows of the past often portrayed, although it may be necessary to kill, it wasn't a good thing. In fact I think society in general has become more numb to death then it was in the past.
I myself, have read or seen in news that they captured some murderer and thinking to myself that I wish they had killed him, without even thinking of what someone that has had to kill another would go through. I really hope that I never have to kill someone, although I am prepared for it, because I really don't want to have that on my mind, no matter how justified it is.
