You're dodging the question, that's a Liberal Lefty move. Now be a good boy and go back and answer the question.
I don't have a definitive answer. If I did I would just go around this forum. I may be dodging the question but you are just saying it isn't possible and there is no way for you to participate in molding a solution. A solution doesn't exist. Perhaps we should leave it at that as we are using data that could be used for other things.

cool now good guys have to qualify and bad guys still get them from other sources.

Laws only effect how a non criminal does business. Crooks by definition ignore/disobey laws

I understand about giving our rights away, but perhaps if we worked together we could make it look like the responsible owners a providing the untrained and unproven a path to ownership. Every one of us that has a CHL had to qualify. Every one of us that were in the military had to qualify. What if we put the AR type rifle into a category of weapon that requires similar qualifications? We can't do it on this thread, but, we can build a profile and a support base. In my own mind, I think the participants of this Gun Forum have what it takes to get something started.

everyone has an opinion and they are just that.

We have tried gun free zones we have tried AW bans we have tried tons more gun control efforts in states like CA and NY and you know what the bad guys still have and get the guns and mags they want. Leaving the good guy on the short end of an encounter.

These things are true. But, look at the recent incidents - the guns and ammo were purchased legally. Some of these people don't become bad until shortly before they commit their act. It appears that there are more roadblocks than opportunity to change.

    Just do one simple thing.

    Define "AR Type rifle".

Of you can again dodge the question, at which point it's clear that you're a Troll. There's a certain group of people that won't answer a direct question when they know the answer will expose them.

Why put the AR 15 in a special catagory?
As what catagory? One of the least efficient centerfire rounds on the market?
You have to remember that when adopted, it was by people used by fighting conventional wars. Like WWII and Korea. They wanted to cut military expenses. The 5.56 was:
    A: cost effective
B: easy to mass produce cheaply in large quantities
C: good at wounding. Wounded took out more manpower in conventional wars than deaths.
I know several front line Officers, including a retired General that fought hard to get 7.62s for his troops because the 5.56, even enhanced, was too inefficient. The 55gr FMJ simply izn't designed to kill efficiently. Not to say it won't, but not designed to.
Hunting rounds are much better at but cost more than double FMJ. And I know a lot of hunters that would not consider using .223 because the consider it as too under powered.
An AR is not any more lethal than any other semi-auto rifle. It is made the way it is so that it will fit more people correctly than a fixed stock rifle can. In a school full of unarmed kids, a .22 semi-auto with a wood stock and a supply of magazines would be as lethal.

How do we determine ahead of time who will be bad?

So you are saying this nitwit that has has had the cops called on him 39 times in 7 years being left on the streets is less dangerous than a ar 15. Even if every simi auto gun in the US was banned and destroyed this dipshit would have made a pressure cooker bomb <that he had plans for> and took out even more people.

If the cops / parents had followed though I doubt he could have legally purchased the gun. On top of that even if he was denied he would have found a way to get one. This is America where you can get anything you want and with the 800K inheritance it would be cake. Illegal Drugs Illegal Sex . Human trafficking. Child Porn. Bestiality full auto weapons.

The inanimate object is not at fault. It is the crazy mo fo that quit taking his meds the parents and the system. If you want it fixed then fix the problems we have not already tried and failed at

Define Troll. I think to you it means "...anyone whose reply doesn't meet your requirements is a troll..."
I posted this conversation to get some interest going and see what others had to say. I made some suggestions to get it started. So far your replies have been implying that I have ulterior motives. I consider that an insult. What makes you think that everyone who doesn't think the same way as you is trying to trap you?

Anytime a man(?) won't answer a direct question they're hiding something.

I have a feeling you know that there's no real difference between any of the 15 firearms I posted and an AR-15. That means you can't/won't answer the simple question..."define an AR type rifle" because it would expose the reality that you want ALL guns banned, you're just not man(?) enough to tell the truth.

That in my book makes you both a Troll and a liar. At this point I highly doubt you even live in Texas.

You asked me to define AR. Well my definition is really different than most and surely from yours. I was there when the first AR 15's were demonstrated to our unit. The military expert that was training us said this is an AR 15. The AR stands for Automatic Rifle. Then the demonstration took place. Since then there have been many definitions and stories told about the AR. Again, you won't believe me, but, I was there in 1964.

I didn't come on here to solve the problem. I simply asked for some thoughts. So far all you have done is insult me. No thanks.

Wow, I never thought I could run in to so many people who have no input other than insults and no thoughts other than the ones they have been conditioned to post. What a bag of hypocrites I have opened. If I had all the answers I wouldn't need this forum. Good Bye.

It is basically a "copy" of a gun made to kill people though, isn't it?

Every gun basically made to kill. A lot of people believe the m4 or m16 are more designed to injure than kill. The thought is injure an enemy takes someone else out of the fight to help them.

Where exactly were you and what kind of unit were you in when the above took place? This was in 1964 you say?
