Well if they are not supposed to make arrests in at at the school what else should they have done. There orders were no arrests at school I guess when the orders were issued they forgot about mass shootings. I guess in that case it would have been ok to move in and arrest the subject.

But they followed orders and waited for him to leave the campus go have a drink at Walmart and MCd's before they got him.

What's Mr Sheriff's religion? It has bearing on his decision making.
Do either of you know what his training was regarding an active shooter? Most training today is scratch ass and wait for backup and then wait for swat. If that was his training and he had engaged the shooter he would have violated policy and been "thrown under the bus" just like he was for doing what he did.

    Admittedly I do not know.
But I will say that if you are there and the shooting is active screw the policy. People are being shot and these were kids. How could any man either LEO or civilian not take action beyond setting up a 1 man perimeter. In the face of this insanity the rule book is tossed and action must be taken regardless.
I understand this man has 6 Deputy's guarding his home. Seems many want to discuss his manhood with him and rightfully so.

This was failure on an epic level from the FBI all the way down the chain.

I'm not a cop, nor have I ever been one, but I am a Marine. If, God Forbid, I'm out and about and the shooting starts the firs thing I do is get my wife to safety, then I hobble towards the sound of gunfire.

I couldn't live with myself if I failed to do otherwise.

Except for the Coral Springs PD that immediately entered the building as they were trained to do when they arrived at the school.
Exactly this. The Locals are seriously pi$$ed off at the lack of action from those cowards that "Set up a pasrimeter"

I hesitate to put this out here, but it’s public information. Sheriff Israel is of the Jewish faith and married to a Christian. Source below:

    http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/20..._1_sheriff-scott-israel-virtuous-woman-pastor

Sheriff Israel is also a gun control advocate.

    http://bsosptest.sheriff.org/Pages/Profiles/Scott-Israel.aspx

And states Assault Rifles should be banned, except for law enforcement, of course.

He also believes nothing can be done to stop an active shooter

“In October 2017, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said in response to the Las Vegas shooting that there is nothing that can be done to stop gunman who are "killing people" and committing "great carnage."

As one of those people who’s done multiple combat tours in a combat arms specialty, I’ll be the first to say that most veterans probably wouldn’t be interested in doing that job unless it pays better than contractor pay, which starts at $250/day.

Tactically, preventing the threat from entering the school is easier than successfully engaging the threat inside the school, especially if you introduce bunch of non-combatants into the engagement area.

In our area, preventing the threat is the tactic that seems to be used. The only unlocked door is the one by the front office.

The elementary school has a person watching the front door, but no cop on site.

The HS has a cop, but the same setup. You actually have to go through the office to enter the school. They have to buzz you in. In the hallway outside the office there are two people there monitoring.

Old training was to secure the area and await SWAT......but that when was the bad guys were taking hostages.....now the bad guys want a body count......

Engage as quickly and safely as possible to mitigate casualties....is current training with the SO here.....

Define "Old". My training was simple, Take charge of the situation, period. Handle it, it's a bad deal to have to call a supervisor. If a Lt has to be called it better be the end of the world. It was handle it at the lowest level possible, not kick it upstairs. Of course that was several decades ago. Now the training seems to be establish perimeter and await SWAT. I'm basing that on what I have seen in the news about how things are handled. I see a lot of 8+ hr standoffs where the house is empty, HUH. They may have different orders in an "active shooter" situation. Don't know but I would hope so.
