AR.... First developed as the AR-10 by Eugene Stoner working for the ArmaLite company, AR stands for ArmaLite rifle which was rejected by the army in favor of the M14. At the request of the U.S. military, Stoner's chief assistant, Robert Fremont and Jim Sullivan developed the AR-15 from the AR-10 design, using the .223 Remington cartridge. Later the the AR-15 was adopted by the U.S. military as the M16. Financial difficulties forced ArmaLite to sell the patent and rights to Colt. In 1977 the patent ran out and many manufacturers started using the term AR-15. AR-15 is among the most popular firearms being sold and is known as a modern sporting rifle.

I know, it's common knowledge, but for those that don't want to spend the time looking it up.

    Looks like?

So in YOUR mind one of these is an AR Type Rifle and needs to be regulated or banned?

Again, in YOUR mind one of these needs to be banned/regulated and the other is fine.

And you're willing to let the MEDIA decide? Damn, that's scary and stupid.

There's NO SUCH THING AS AN ASSAULT WEAPON.
And, there is no such thing as objectivity and teamwork on this board. You have all proved that AR can't be defined and we can't do anything to preserve our rights. It is all about each of you is right and everyone else is wrong. Therefore, we must just live with whatever our lawmakers decide it best for us and our children and grand children.

Nope, your mistake was coming into a gun forum and trying to pull the wool over our eyes. You've said at least three times you're leaving. Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.
I can't pull the wool over your eyes, you haven't been able to open them through this entire exchange. You have one idea about life and guns and no room for any other ideas.

I've got lots of ideas. However none of them involve denying Citizens of their Rights.

You've given a definition of "AR Type Rifle" that's so broad it would include every rifle that uses a magazine. You want the people of this forum, which is devoted to firearms, to have a conversation with you about banning firearms that almost everyone here owns.

I can see why you're so butt hurt.

You're as slippery as a vaseline covered Copperhead, you gave a definition and I provided some examples. Yet you CAN'T OR WON'T tell us which rifles you think should be banned BASED ON LOOKS. Banning things based on LOOKS is moronic, yet it falls right into the Liberal wheelhouse. Just admit you're scared of black rifles with the shoulder thing that goes up.

I never said anything about banning weapons. I have AR-15's, M1A's. M1 Garand's and other military rifles. All I wanted was to get a conversation going about how we might get feedback to our representatives. It seems that you can't participate in anything that might require you to also listen. I've never tried to put Vaseline on a Copperhead. How does that work?

I’ve noticed a lot of assumptions about what you think is going on with other people. Clearly, you have no way to know how people are approaching this discussion on a personal level.

I’ve tried having a discussion. Each one I have had just digs me a deeper hole towards what I can only assume is the correct side.

I’ve considered and tried coming towards the middle (compromising) in the past.

When I do that, (learning and critiquing different points back and forth) the result is something akin to magnetic force which seems to push me the other direction and further that way than I was in the first place.

Have you noticed that I can't get a response that doesn't include an insult?

Well, I can go back and analyze them all...there are probably some both ways, with and without.

But you can’t let that excuse you making ineffective assumptions of all member’s motives and POV lumped into one which you claim to have pegged.

    Just like with most liberals

You want a discussion as long as its is close to what you think.
Really? What makes you think I am a liberal? Is it because I asked to start a discussion of cause and affect regarding the situation we find ourselves in? Is it because I tried to find open minded people to join a discussion? Think about what you just said: "You want a discussion as long as its is close to what you think". Aren't you describing yourself? And, further more, I consider labelling me a liberal as an insult.

I did not say you were a lib

I said you acted like they act you will only accept what you think is correct. I am open to both sides of the argument as long as its not something that has been tried and failed.
