It went along with a line of weird pets I had. Another interesting one was a crawfish. Freaked people out when I let the tarantula crawl around on me.

I've always found the spider scene from Dr. No to be hilarious. Check this still:

When I was a teenager, I had a friend who saved up his money and bought some weird ass Brown tarantula. He used to think it was funny that i would avoid it, and him when it was around. So one day I’m sitting on the ground doing my front brakes on my Blazer, and he sneaks up behind me and puts it on my back. When it crawled on my neck I flung it. It bounced of my fender and hit the ground then I beat it to death with an 18” crescent wrench as I was getting up to run away. We weren’t friends after that. He wanted $600 from me and I wanted to kill him.

Raw hamburger meat.
It turned almost a translucent blue over time - probably the clean water and its diet.
