Was told I used too much frog lube paste.

I'm pretty dubious on dry film lubricants, but I ordered some to try out. Thanks for the snake oil recommendation.

Yessir, I was too until I tried the EEZOX. I have used it for a couple years now on my plastic handguns, AR’s, Bolt-Actions & Shotguns and has worked very well. Wish we’d had it overseas during my time in the sandbox. Something about 1911’s though, compels me to continue using RemOil Premium cleaner/lubricant. I think EEZOX would work just fine though, mostly just miss the smell of good ol’ RemOil I think :)

Back when I was working part time at a range we had a guy bring in a gun that had been frog lubed to no end. The gun had also been stored in his closet for quite a long time before he got it out. It was a GLOCK 21. The striker channel was so gummed up the striker would barely move via hand manipulation. Wound up having to take it in the work area and degrease the whole slide in the ultrasonic cleaner. I'm sure it mostly works ok if "used as directed" but IMO it takes too much end user knowledge for the "average" shooter to use it properly and is more likely to cause problems in people's guns.

IMO we put far too much thought/effort into gun lubes. It's not a complex mechanical piece of equipment. In most instances unless you're running a machine gun or the like standard lubes work fine. I've used lots of stuff from Engine Oil to Chapstick (in a pinch) and it's all done the job.

When I used to be more involved and dedicated when it came to gun maintenance, I would do the entire application process for Militec 1 prior to lubrication.

    I think it worked.

    Could be placebo

That's the thing; just about anything will work when applied appropriately. It's difficult to test in the real world if any of the wunderlubes do anything that a thin smear of axle grease doesn't. It's fun to play around with them all, tho.

The only thing I truly believe to be superior to every other lube I've ever used was a shiny red gel I bought from Dave Berryhill many many years ago.

I still have it. 2oz will likely last me my entire lifetime.

I've barely used 10% in around 13 years

here's a pic that swayed me when I was looking for a new lube, its from m4carbine.com. Unfortunately it appears the pics in the thread have been consumed by the photobucket fiasco

It mostly shows protection... not so much cleaning or lubing. Then again I always have hoppes for cleaning and slide glide for the heavy lube.

I stick to G96 for cleaning and protecting, with slide glide on the rails. Hoppes for dirty barrels. Recently I had to run some JB Bore Paste with a brush to shine up some barrels.

Only reason I chose G96 I was looking for a good CLP (oxymoron?) that didn't stink up the house.

Slide glide has a similar viscosity to multi purpose grease... however it has a stringy texture to it.

maybe it just feels better using it, especially since it carries a hefty price tag.

These tests are always interesting but I take them with a big spray of salt water. If anything, they tell me what will happen if I apply a product and then completely neglect my gun after burying it in the sand by the ocean or something similar.
    Boating accident?

There’s a member of this forum whose day job is lubrication expert. He literally makes his living by knowing everything there is to know about grease and oil. I believe I’ll take his advice.

Did this individual ever make a thread about it?

My brother (who helped design stuff that went left this hunk of rock) said it doesn't really matter when it comes to guns.

Then again- there are people wiping down their guns with repackaged Crisco and baby butt paste. LOL

So I finally got around to using it. It has a very strong solvent smell that I recognize, but can't quite remember where. The wife thinks it smells like the car wash, and I think that is one component to it, but there is another layer to the smell that somehow reminds me of my grandma, or maybe elderly people in general... Is it Bengay?

At first I thought the smell was nice, but it has stunk up my gun room. It does dry and leave a dry slippery coating as advertised, but still dubious of the efficacy. Might try to do some testing... anyone have a tribometer I can borrow?

My favorite part of the lube so far is how it leaves the exterior finish. For a lack of a better way to describe it, the finish looks better then new. I'll probably continue to use it just as an external wipe down because of that.
