Day seven, still no sign of the missing primers, but not for lack of looking. I'm starting to suspect the cats.

Turns out the pro1000 doesn't like 460s. I had to finish them on the single stage. I have 80 or so loaded up to take to Austin this weekend. I started setting up the pro1000 for 44 mag last night but again was distracted looking for those damn primers :-/

Maybe tonight I'll get those guys setup and run through. Also expecting another world's cheapest trimmer today in the mail. I'll give more info on that once I try the new one.

No reloading today. Range trip. Came home with a lot more brass than I shot. Someone left 50 rounds of .38 SPL, 50 rounds of .357 Mag, around 100 .45 ACP and tons of 9mm and .40 Short and Weak laying on the ground.

Got everything I need to load 6BR.

With a 6.5 Creedmoor for comparison.

    World's cheapest trimmer:

Take 1 - end mill inside of some sort of plastic. Uses the shoulder to trim the neck so the brass much all be sized first. Pretty simple instructions; loosen set screw, insert desired length brass and move the mill until it touches the brass, tighten lock screw. Read and reread instructions 3 times to be sure. After 5 rounds my cases were shrinking. Was set at 1.745, steadily got smaller as I went. Stopped. Reset. 1.750 (maybe it's normal to shrink a little after it's dialed in? Who knows...). 5 more cases, starting to shrink again. Reset. Tighten more. Same problem. Emailed the mfg Sunday, he tells me.what to do, still the same. Report back to him and he sends out a replacement.

Take 2 - got the second trimmer today. Mfg insisted "DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN." He also estimated about 15 inch pounds on the lock screw. Set it up. 1.745. run onethrough and it comes out tits. Run 5 more and check, good. 10 more, good. I'm seeing them go from 1.743-1.748. good enough for me. Ran about 200 through, still coming out good.

Review - the good: cheaper than WFT, easy to setup. The bad: the shaft of the mill isn't very long coming out of the back of the housing so it barely fits my tiny drill. The translates to wobble. Not that big of a deal. I might trim 1/8-3/16 off the back of the housing just to make a little more of of the shaft stick out. The ugly: I had a couple cases that didn't hit feel right. When I looked I found a string of brass had gotten between the cutter and the brass so it was acting as a stand off. Overall: worth $23, all day. Going to have to see if he can custom one for the Japs.

ETA: after about 200 my fingers hurt so I stopped. I could have easily done all of them if the fingers would hold out. Might try to run another couple hundred in a few hours.

I would never lose primers due to my OCDness when it comes to them.

All the way home I'm thinking about getting them into their box with the silica packs. lol Its literally the first thing I do when I get home. Everything else can sit in the car, should there be other items. But the primers go straight to the man cave to join their cousins in their respective box.

I have a separate ammo box for rifle and pistol primers.

I keep all of my rifle and pistol stuff in a tool box next to my bench. My shotgun stuff is across the garage on another bench so I keep those primers over there. I had picked up a few thousand primers, few boxes of bullets, a 25# bag of shot, a couple little tools, a plastic ammo box, and a couple other little things. The single tray of shotgun primers was the smallest thing I got.

I left the bag of shot just inside the front door (because that bag gets heavy carrying it inside) and took the bag with all the other stuff to my garage. As I was pulling stuff out of the bag I was putting it into the tool box. I remember taking the tray of shotgun primers out of the bag at my bench and setting it aside so I could finish putting g the rest of my stuff away.

    POOF!!!!

No idea where it went. I must have looked through both my rolling toolboxes 20 times each and my one top bow full of reloading stuff another 50 times. I've searched everywhere in the house I went, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, and living room. I've looked in the couch. I've looked in the fridge. I even dug through the trash in the dining room and garage. Luckily there wasn't much to go through, but still nothing.

Wife got home Saturday really late with the girls. I'm sure she will find them for me... Because God knows a woman can find anything a man can't...

That's very likely, but not I this case. She was honestly 900 miles away. But the cats are her minions of darkness!

Picked up a little gunpowder. Nice to replenish the stash.
I won't have that problem for a while with pistol powder. I was able to fill 4 1gal paint cans with the 33# box I picked up. I still have a good few pounds of red dot for shotgun as well. I could however use an 8# of h335 or something though to load some rifles with.

I have only ever used h335 for 223.

The long story short is I can trade some hazmat credit for some powder. Right now the only powder the guy has suitable for 223 is varget.

Anyone have any experience loading 223 with varget? Looks like charge weights are a little higher with the varget. Would I be better off getting a 4 or 8 pounder of varget and selling/trading locally (here) to get what I want?

Time is a factor as well so any input is appreciated.
