It’s kind of weird. We all got into guns at the same time, and a couple of the kids did competitive pistol shooting, and easily (with weekly practices) surpassed us adults in skill level in pistol shooting. So when I would get a jam when I was shooting early on with little experience...I would hand the firearm to my kid to clear.

Lots of retired LEO's, Military everywhere you go. Set up a program to hire them as 'General Maintenance and Janitorial services' for a job title. This gives them access to everything on the school grounds. They are retired and this job is right down their alley. Protecting kids, making a little money in the process. They can also be plain clothes.

You have a base of mature, experienced people that you don't have to pay a fortune to get and it fits into their service to people mind set.

While I am not interested myself, but I know several like myself: 70, good physical shape, combat vet, retired military and a job that you only work about 180 days a year and get a decent wage. Sign'um up.

schools barley have the cash to function due to miss spending of funds.

How much do you think it will cost to add 3-4 guards to every school in the US.

I don't have kids and don't want to pay more in taxes to stop something that you cant stop to make some snowflake feel better.

And that can and should be corrected.
The cost per pupil in the US is the highest in the world and our bang for buck is one of the lowest of schools in free world countries.

As a product of America schools I can look back over it and understand why they are in a mess. They teach almost nothing of value, kids come out of schools and even college with near non existent real life skills.

One of the best things my dad did for me was to put me on an allowance of $20 bucks a week and this was back in the 60's. I did work HARD for that money on our ranch. At first it seemed like a lot of money till the reality of buying my own clothes and everything I needed or wanted set in. I came to realize that my dad was saving money by giving me $20 per week.

You were lucky to be getting any allowance. I started part time work (after school and weekends) and paying social security tax at 13. Worked all thru high school and college.

NOT having a brother, that 3500 bale of hay (back when a bale weighed over 100 lbs) that got loaded UP in the barn, took a good chunk of the summer, then walking/riding fence (horseback), cleaning up the pens and coral along with the 8+ cord of wood cut with an axe, $20 bucks a week was low pay for this ranch hand...I worked hard for my money and that work ethic is still with me today in my 70's. Most of my retired friends ask me why do I work so hard at my age? I own a successful mfg company and when I am not doing that you can find me on a John Deere or with a chainsaw in my hands.

I really take exception to generalizations of all teaching.
The facts just don't speak, the scream failure, failure to prepare students for the world they live in. Are there schools that produce great students, for sure. I have lived in 2 towns that have HS ranked in the very top in the US and those kids have got it in spades.

Nothing I learned in school prepared me, but my parents did...

Certainly, there are schools and teachers that don't do their job and teach students what they need to function in the real world, but like many things in life, there is good and bad. I can't speak for all teachers, but I had good teachers and bad teachers myself, you also have to take into account the attitude of the students these days. I have a few students that hunger for knowledge and are exceptional in what they are taught, and then there are some that it seems no matter how much time I invest and try to motivate, just don't get it.

All of this unicorn and fairy dust touchy feely BS in the press and by the Libs about dealing with school shootings is just that... wishful thinking by out of touch nutcases that sit around and jerk each other off over their utopian ideas. What we need are real solutions. This is no different than securing our borders. Secure the schools then we can talk about the social issues and why this is happening...although I think we all know why this occurs so often today...it's not the sudden influx of guns, they have been around since day one...hell I used to have them in my Blazer at 15 when I was in JR High...in the early 80's.. so did my buddies and guess what...no one got shot.

Just as we have seen in Maryland yesterday... yeah, the very state with some very strict gun laws and a shooting by a 17 with an illegal pistol... gee, why didn't those laws stop the shooting? Nope..what stopped it was a damn good cop that could put one in the X ring. THAT'S the difference between this shooting and Florida... 2 injured vs 17 dead and many more hurt. Funny how that works.

And parents.. keep your damn firearms secure! If your kid shoots up a school with your firearms that weren't secured you should be in jail right along with your kid.. IF they are still alive.

When I was in school, the majority of kids respected their teachers, because that's what we were taught.
Now days, not so much, it seems like teachers are lucky to make it through the day without being assaulted.

I believe, and this is my own opinion, that much of the problems with students today is that either they grew up with very little oversight and never really learned responsibility or, they grew up where they were given everything they wanted without earning it and therefore didn't learn responsibility.

To really find out how much the schools spend per student you need to get the ALL FUNDS budget for that district. Most school districts go to great lengths to hide this number.

I know in Portland, where I lived for 25 years, the school district would tell you they spent around $5k per student. But when you found the ALL FUNDS budget and divided it by the number of students the actual number was over $15k per student.

At $15k per student they were delivering a sub-par, but well indoctrinated, product.

Take that number, and look at a class of 30 kids. That's $450,000 spent right there. A teacher in Portland makes around $78K on average after a few years. That leaves $372,000. The buildings were all pretty much paid for, but in poor shape due to little to no maintenance.

Right before we left they were seeking voter approval for a $1.2 billion dollar bond to renovate 14 schools and build one new one. Of course Oregon is a prevailing wage state which means they are paying well above market rate for labor. Something like $78 an hour for electricians.

Then there's the Public Employees Retirement System in Oregon. It's poorly managed and eats up right at 50% of school budgets. A Tier 1 PERS retiree with 30 years of service can make 125% of their pay in retirement.

Personally I'd like to see a pure free market system. Collect the taxes, give parents a voucher for each child and let the parents decide where to send their kids to school. The only function the State would have after that is to ensure that the schools are meeting or exceeding standards.

I'd have several more guns if I made 78K, but then that is closer to what I made before teaching. I teach because I love it, not because of the pay.

Oh yeah, only working 8 months out of the year helps.

The mantra and golden rule when I was growing up was that everyone in the family had to "earn your keep".

Raised on a horse farm, we grew our own vegetables, rabbits, poultry and always had a feed lot calf or two, and yearly FFA projects.

In addition to all those chores, made .50/hour in the summers from 13 to 17 working 8/7 for a landscaping company, and loading hay for .01/bale (+ the privilege to hunt quail during season).

That $28/week in Jr and Sr High school was the most money I'd ever seen and I could hardly spend it all. My Dad would provide shoes, church, school and work clothes, but if you wanted something besides work clothes and shoes from Sears, you had to buy it yourself.

First two years of college were paid for by me working offshore on seismograph crews out of Morgan City, LA. My first year at Texas A&M in 1962 cost me $940 for tuition, room, board, laundry and books. Saved the money working offshore and had $60 left to last me for the both semesters ... not a big issue for that "0ld Army" Aggie Fish year, too busy getting hazed to go anywhere.

Totally different world today ... we were just kept too damned busy "earning our keep" to go on a shooting rampage.

Its not the teachers, its the rules they have to go by. I was married to a school teacher and also dated a college Prof, the rules they live by are insane and where is it from? The Feds! The Feds run our schools and you will do as they say or be gone.

Feds = special stupid and far left thinking.

The guy who bought my house was a school Principal. About4 mo or so after he bought he calls me up asking me if I have proof that the pool equipment was installed within the past year. I tell him sure, the pool has been in less than a year.

WELL that damn pool is making a lot of noise and has other problems. So I say ok, I will meet you there tomorrow at 3:30.

I drive up and I can hear the motor screaming, he pulls up and and we walk over to the pool equipment and the motor is DRY. I ask how long has it been doing this? Ohhh 3 or 4 days! WTH???

We walk over to the pool and I look down, its almost dry. I say, there is no water in the pool.

YEA, meant to ask you, how do you get water in the pool?

See that HOSE on the wall I left you, see the facuet its connected to, turn the knob and put the hose in the water!!!!

    Ohh, I did not know.

    This guy has a PhD.

I leave and see some of my former neighbors. They ALL hate his guts. He has let all the plants and trees die, on Fri and Sat nights he has sex parties with his GAY BOY friends and I guess it gets rather hot and heated in the backyard.
