I am thinking about taking a class next week that requires an AR with a sling. It is required because they do rifle to pistol transitions. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a sling if possible because i don't fancy myself a tactical guy and will only use this for this class. The class is supposed to be a lot of fun and i have not taken a class like it before. If end up liking the course and take something like it again in the future I can spend the time and money to buy something better. The AR i am taking does not have a rail or anything to attach to so I don't know how it would attach besides the regular rifle sling mounts.

Any advice on a quick sling purchase would be a great help. I am in Houston so going to a local store is an option or something like amazon that has free 2 day shipping would be great if possible.

Thanks in advance for your help,

If you swap out the AR spring plate (name?) on back of the receiver, you can put a single point sling attachment (replacement plate - under $15) on it. Then you can buy a sling for under $40.

Be careful when you remove that metal plate, as there is a spring under it.

this is my homemade sling, made from a quick adjust cargo strap. looks like crap, but works very good.

IMO the important part of a sling is the hardware. I have had highly rated cheap slings break with almost no use.

    That's why I don't use a sling... I'm way too cheap lol.

In competition, the GI web sling for the M1 Garand was seen most often. It's much better than a leather sling as it has much easier adjustment and adjustment range. You won't find a better (or cheaper) sling!
