Moonpie was the witness. Older gentleman didn't know much about guns went to the range with me. Had told me he thought it was 9mm. Stupid me, I didn't check. Loaded and fired a full mag. Fairly accurate too. The noticed some split cases. WTF??? looked at the gun like I should have first.

    It was .357 sig.

No damage, but I felt like an idiot.

    Gunz are icky.
Back when I was a silly goose hunter I carried a Browning 10ga pump afield.
    Non toxic 3 1/2" 10ga shells were $$$$.
    I learned one could fire 12ga 2 3/4" shells in the 10.
So I carried a handful of much less expensive 12 non toxic shells to finish off crippled birds. They wouldn't cycle in the pump but I could single load them.

After laying in mud freezing my limbs off I came to realize you are right.
I do miss Colorado Goose hunting, but then I remember they legalized pot and built strip and outdoor malls everywhere that I used to hunt at...

So, range my wife and I have been going to has had a groupon drop so we've been getting your stereotypes to a high warp factor squared and throw in a full moon... I got hit by a ricochet the other day cause the chick next to us kept hitting the metal post on the garage door opener that holds the cardboard backing for the target... plus she ended up gripping the gun wrong and made herself bleed all over (of which my Eagle Scout skills kicked in and triaged her because the RSO didn't have first aid stuff) others have proceeded to shoot the cables that support the target, too... the goofy stances, grips, dumb comments, and other knucklehead actions!!!! Can spring hit us so I can go to an outdoor range please?????

Speaking of, I need to see if there are any good training ranges for my wife and I to start learning more tactical or plate shooting. Please let me know if you all like a certain place in my other thread so we don't hijack this one.

Went to a fancy new range in New Braunfels with my dad.

We were both having a great range day when I hear any angry, loud male voice.

Turns out it was a guy yelling at his wife a few lanes over. Just verbally lambasting the poor woman.
I really felt bad for her.

They'd both been shooting laser gripped guns poorly for an hour.

    Witnessed a very similar scenario.

Dad w/ his son. Kid was about 12 or so.
Dad had some uber recoil rifle in .783 Magnumblaster.
Kid fired the rifle. Got the snot kicked out of him. He didn't want to do that again. He refuses to shoot the gun again. Dad starts yelling and criticizing the boy. MAKES him fire the rifle again. Kid is crying at this point.
Dad continues to force kid to shoot a couple of more times, calling him a puss etc.
Kid now HATES shooting and probably will never try it again.
    Way to go Dad.

This sort of thing drives me nuts. Some 20+ years ago there was a woman I dated and thought I might marry. However, she constantly verbally berated her 11-year-old son for not being manly. That's a huge oversimplification but it gets the basic point across.

It was pretty obvious to me that her kid was/was going to be gay. That didn't bother me. I would have been happy to be a good father to him and would have accepted him no matter how he turned out. She, however, constantly picked at him to the point he was horribly depressed. She was producing a son who was either going to run away to San Francisco or be closeted and miserable for the rest of his life.

That's the kind of sticking point that will torpedo a marriage. There were arguments. When it became clear that she would not change, I broke it off.

I just can't hang out with people who treat kids like that.

Unfortunately, I believe that's how some monsters are created also.

Just last weekend my wife and I went to the local indoor range. The guy next to us 1) couldn’t remove his chamber flag 2) tried to load a 9mm backwards in the mag 3) couldn’t fire out why his gun wouldn’t work(manual safety M&p 2.0) and looked down the barrel to see what the problem was) I had to intervene and give him some hard lessons in gun safety. Thankfully shorty after shooting the top of the target paper several times; he gave up. Was reported to the RSO, apparently that guy was a member! Well anybody can be a member with the right coin, doesn’t mean jack, at least the RSO said he’ll keep a close eye on him.

My brother did that once at a shooting range.

One of the employees was extolling the quality and superiority of his USP45, and offered to let us use it.

After a while, I saw my brother have 3 jams in a row with odd sounding pops.
I looked down at the floor and saw 3 little brass bells that sure looked like .40 Short & Weak cases to me.

The gun was totally fine, but the guy was not amused. I doubt if he ever loaned his gun out again

Honest to god, I swear I thought the older guy at the range was trying to shake my hands to congratulate me on my wife's shooting today.

Alas, he was like "Thank you for your service!", upon which I had to disappoint him. A tan baseball hat with a tan flag don't make me a veteran of any kind, of any service.

I had the opposite experience, once.
I was wearing a BDU parka my cousin gave me because it was cold and raining.

As I walked back to my car, I noticed a skinny, small guy with his cell phone in hand on a deliberate trajectory to meet up with me.

"Wh... Where'd you get th.. That jacket?"

After humoring him for a minute, I outright asked him, "were you hoping to makes one of those cringey 'stolen valor' videos?"
"N.. No, you just looked a little young to have served when those were being issued"

I then wished him well and left.
